World of Warcraft is giving Gilneas City, the long-lost capital of the Worgen race, a facelift in Patch 10.2.5. This much-needed makeover will be a part of the Reclaiming Gilneas questline coming in the next World of Warcraft update early next year.
Recently, World of Warcraft teased the first bits of information about Patch 10.2.5, Seeds of Renewal, and began testing the upcoming content update on the Public Test Realm. One of the headlining features of the next patch is the Reclaiming Gilneas storyline, which will finally give the werewolf-like Worgen of World of Warcraft their home back after 13 years. That said, World of Warcraft said it would not be testing this story on the PTR, meaning players will have to wait until the patch is live to see it play out.
World of Warcraft: Horde Players Get a Special Debuff in New Patch 10.2.5 Area
When entering a certain area in World of Warcraft Patch 10.2.5, Seeds of Renewal, Horde players get a special and flavorful debuff.
However, that doesn’t mean the Gilneas zone itself is without changes on these servers. During a recent build, World of Warcraft fan and PTR explorer Portergauge traveled to Gilneas and discovered the city had been rebuilt and repopulated in a big way. Dozens of Gilnean NPCs–both Human and Worgen–can be found wandering the city, which is actively being repaired after back-to-back attacks by feral Worgen and the Forsaken. Keen-eyed players can even find major NPCs like Darius and Lorna Crowley, Krennan Aranas, and a few other encrypted characters who are being kept as a surprise. After finally leaving Stormwind in WoW Patch 10.2, the people of Gilneas have finally returned home.
The Merchant Square where Worgen start in World of Warcraft has been revamped from a disheveled district to a full-fledged market. Players can find citizens, vendors, and the original Worgen Class Trainers from World of Warcraft, scattered about this area as well. Luckily, it seems this area is phased in a way that preserves the original Worgen beginner experience–largely considered to be one of the most unique and well-written starting zones in World of Warcraft history.
Many of the NPCs around Gilneas City have been given makeovers as well, utilizing new character customization options and transmogs that were not available during Cataclysm. It seems like World of Warcraft is turning Gilneas into a full-fledged capital city in Seeds of Renewal, though it remains to be seen if it will add other major amenities, such as portal transportation or an Auction House.
Players are excited about getting a first glimpse of the reclaimed Gilneas City in the Public Test Realm. Considering the same World of Warcraft patch is building the new Night Elves city of Bel’ameth, many find it fitting that the Worgen–their long-time allies–get their home back in the same update. Once Patch 10.2.5 drops early next year, fans will have to explore Gilneas City for themselves to see how much it has changed since Cataclysm.
World of Warcraft: Dragonflight
