Blizzard has introduced some changes to the Recruit A Friend system in World of Warcraft, allowing players to bring their friends back into the game with even greater ease. The Recruit A Friend referral program made its debut in 2008, where it awarded players with an exclusive World of Warcraft mount if they got their friends to start an adventure in Azeroth. Since then, it has returned several times with many different rewards before Blizzard temporarily suspended the program in 2019.

The modern Recruit A Friend program in World of Warcraft returned with an Explorer's League theme, as players participating in the system can now earn several new mounts and outfits by completing quests with their recruit. In addition to recruiting newcomers to World of Warcraft, the system also targets returning players, as prior to Dragonflight, people could use the Recruit A Friend program on friends who haven't been subscribed for at least two years.

This restriction is changing in a big way, as Blizzard has chosen to decrease the two-year requirement for inactive World of Warcraft players down to just twelve months without a subscription. Though the change is more than welcome in the World of Warcraft community, it would seem that Blizzard is targeting World of Warcraft players who left for Final Fantasy 14 in the mass exodus last year, a shift that saw several content creators such as Asmongold and a sizable chunk of its population move to Square Enix's flagship MMO.

Coupled with the introduction of a Battle Pass system to World of Warcraft, one gets the impression that Blizzard Entertainment is willing to modernize its subscription model and provide further incentives for being subscribed and playing the game. Returning players will be able to benefit from a 30-slot backpack, as well as a permanent 50% experience bonus whenever they're grouped with their recruiter.

Many World of Warcraft fans would agree that it's a good time to return to Azeroth, as Dragonflight is shaping up to be the redemption story the franchise sorely needed after the shortcomings of Shadowlands. With the opening of the Vault of the Incarnates raid, the inaugural season of Dragonflight promises an electrifying race to take down Raszageth before she has a chance to free her siblings from their prison. Dragonflight has now entered the stage that will make or break the expansion – the honeymoon phase is over, and its endgame is now front-and-center. Whether newcomers to Azeroth or returning veterans, the Dragon Isles will at least keep players occupied for the next few months.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is available now for PC.
