World of Warcraft: Dragonflight has introduced some new antagonists into the fold, known as the Primal Incarnates. They are four massive elemental proto-drakes intent on scouring Azeroth of any Titan influence, including the dragons. Each one has a unique appearance and set of powers, and will likely provide many an epic boss fight in the months to come.

The beginning of Dragonflight’s story involved Raszageth, the Storm Incarnate, being freed from her prison on the Forbidden Reach. She and her devoted followers began their assault on the inhabitants of the Dragon Isles, especially upon Alexstrasza the Lifebinder, Queen of the dragons. In Wow: Dragonflight’s first raid tier, Vault of the Incarnates, players faced the Storm-Eater as she attempted to free the rest of her family from stasis. Raszageth was slain, but her efforts paid off and the other three Incarnates broke free, swearing revenge.

Primal Incarnates

The Primal Incarnates embody Azeroth’s wild elements. Raszageth was the Storm Incarnate, while the other three are Fyrakk the Blazing, Vyranoth the Frozenheart, and Iridikron the Stonescaled, each representing fire, ice, and earth respectively. In the patch 10.0.7 cinematic, players witnessed the three remaining Incarnates as they progressed in their plan to destroy the dragons. Iridikron in particular is said to be the strongest and most dangerous Incarnate, seemingly leagues ahead of his siblings in terms of knowledge and strength. The very earth itself responds to his call, and knowing that Azeroth is indeed a living entity in its own right, it seems all the more concerning that Iridikron has such power over the newly-awakened planet.

The next raid tier, Aberrus, set to arrive in the Embers of Neltharion patch, does not involve any actual combat encounters with the Incarnates. That being said, Fyrakk can be seen stewing in a nice hot lava bath inside, likely absorbing more power. Aberrus, once Deathwing’s long-lost laboratory, is said to be powered by a molten fire that the Incarnates plant to use to their ends, but for what purpose, players don’t yet know. What is currently known, however, is that aside from the death of Raszageth, the Incarnates have not suffered any meaningful setbacks, and their plan is still in full effect.

In terms of their respective powers, the Primal Incarnates are unstoppable forces of pure elemental energy, their scales and wings encrusted with ice or dripping with magma. Raszageth’s boss fight is complex and involves various mechanics surrounding lightning, wind, and managing static charge. The other Incarnates’ boss fights will likely also employ mechanics that play upon their chosen elemental powers, all of which will be exciting to see.

Rumor has it that Aberrus holds the secret to possibly resurrecting Galakrond, the Father of Dragons and the largest proto-drake to ever exist. There has been no official confirmation of this, and players will have to wait and see if it proves true. However, if Iridikron's plan involves using Neltharion's inventions to re-animate the most powerful draconic creature to have ever existed, it may seal the Primal Incarnate's victory over Azeroth.

Iridikron, being the Earth Incarnate, seems to be the only one of his kin who knows the true extent of what Neltharion, the former Aspect of Earth, left behind. Secrets upon secrets lay buried beneath Azeroth’s surface, and if anyone else knows of them, Iridikron would be the prime suspect. His schemes are sure to shake Azeroth to its core when they unfold, and it will likely take all the dragonflights working together to defeat the Primal Incarnates once and for all.
