World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is finally here, and it seems to be shaping up to be one of the best expansions to date. It has successfully brought Azeroth back to the forefront after years of controversial cosmic adventures, and it seems to be rectifying many World of Warcraft mistakes from the past. The story has been intriguing, the systems are engaging, and the game feels like it is in a great spot. However, numerous characters seem to be missing from the storyline, and that should be fixed.

The central focus of the Dragonflight narrative is the fight to reclaim the ancestral homeland of the Dragonflights of Azeroth. They must overcome their ancient adversary and reignite their Oathstones to ensure that they have a future. Failure to accomplish this could result in the end of Azeroth as players know it. Therefore Dragonflight requires the attention of Azeroth's residents, but it does not seem to concern the leaders of the Horde and Alliance. While the fight for the future of the planet is in full swing on the Dragon Isles, characters like Thrall and Greymane seem to be sitting this one out for some reason.

The Dragonflight Conflict Could Change Azeroth Forever

The Dragonflights of Azeroth want to regain their powers and renew their pledge to protect Azeroth, and the Primalists want to rid the planet of the titans' stain. The Primalists will do whatever they can to accomplish this task, and they have only gotten stronger since the Vault of Incarnates raid. They have lashed out against the forces of Azeroth, and have been meddling with the elements across numerous zones. Players have seen their ultimate goal during the Thaldraszus leveling campaign when they traveled to the Primalist Tomorrow, and it seems more likely than ever that the Primalists will win the day.

Ridding the world of the titans' stain most likely includes ridding the world of many of the mortal races in Warcraft's Azeroth. Humans, Dwarves, and Gnomes are all descended from the Titan-Forged races who were directly created by the Titan Pantheon. Goblins were allegedly experimented on by the titans, and it is believed that the Orcs may have also descended from Titan-Forged races on Draenor. While the extinction of the dragons seems to be the Primalists' primary goal, to successfully rid Azeroth of the titans' stain, they will have to look towards the mortal races eventually.

This means that if the Primalists succeed in their mission, then all of Azeroth will be changed forever. A danger like this should get the attention of all the iconic lore characters, from Thrall and Baine Bloodhoof to Jaina Proudmoore and Genn Greymane. Instead, it seems like only the Dragon Aspects and Khadgar are fighting on the frontlines. The rest of the major lore characters are off having tea parties and twiddling their thumbs, and that does not make sense.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight's first major patch is not even out yet, and there is a possibility that all these major characters will get involved by the end of the expansion. This phase of the story could simply be the expedition phase, and the release of the other Primal Incarnates could draw the attention of the bulk of Azeroth's forces for a larger war story. That would at least make a bit more sense, but players will have to wait and see if that will actually happen.

All of Azeroth is at stake, and that means that all of Azeroth's forces should be fighting the Primalists. Instead, it simply feels like a random assortment of mortals are trying to stop them. This does not make much sense based on the story that the developers are telling, and it should really change. The major Azeroth lore characters deserve to play a larger role in this narrative, so Blizzard needs to deliver that as Dragonflight unfolds.
