Though World of Warcraft announced Dragonflight a few months ago, little information has come out about the expansion since then. However, some keen World of Warcraft fans just found the internal alpha for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight on the Blizzard Catalogue.
The Blizzard Catalogue was just recently updated to recognize the Dragonflight internal alpha. This means the server systems have the coding necessary to launch and support a Dragonflight internal alpha build in addition to the other Public Test Realm or live server builds.
With this in mind, World of Warcraft could be planning its alpha test for Dragonflight very soon. This is the internal alpha, however, so it is likely this Catalogue entry will be for Blizzard developers, as well as close friends, family, and a select group of other individuals. An open alpha, nor a closed or open beta, have been formally announced yet for Dragonflight, though it is currently accepting signups on its official site.
Previously, World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas stated Dragonflight was well into its development cycle. About a month ago, during an interview with popular World of Warcraft content creator Taliesin, Hazzikostas said alpha testing would begin “Soon™, but also soon without the ™.” If the Dragonflight internal alpha began somewhere within the next couple of months, it would be quite soon indeed. That said, the schedule would fall in line with the alpha testing cycles of previous expansions, and if it continued to do so, it would mean players could expect Dragonflight beta testing before the end of the year.
Players have been eagerly awaiting more information about World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. The expansion’s announcement in April was met with a good deal of much-needed optimism, especially considering the poor reception of the Shadowlands expansion. However, with the positive reception from the content in WoW Patch 9.2.5, many World of Warcraft players have high hopes for Dragonflight.
That being said, World of Warcraft is not out of the woods yet. Many critics have already given up hope on Blizzard due to unpopular development decisions like in Diablo Immortal, and because of the ongoing controversies surrounding its lawsuits from last year. With Activision Blizzard’s acquisition from Microsoft still pending, Blizzard is in a period of flux and uncertainty. With its reputation, revenue, and future on the line, it is no exaggeration that World of Warcraft: Dragonflight may be the most important WoW expansion Blizzard has developed for the venerable MMORPG yet.
