World of Warcraft just released a roadmap of Dragonflight updates for 2023. This new and welcome level of transparency has given World of Warcraft players a look at what is coming next year, and a general feel for when to expect new content for the MMORPG.

The roadmap was shared alongside commentary from World of Warcraft executive producer Holly Longdale. She laid out the general path Dragonflight would take over the next year, and gave players a taste of the six updates it has planned.

Patch 10.0.5 is coming to World of Warcraft early next year. In addition to the new Trading Post feature and the ability to transmog white and gray items, new daily quests are coming to the alternative future zone, Primalist Tomorrow, explored during the Thaldraszus storyline. This update is already available on the Public Test Realm, and players can expect it to go live in mid- or late-January.

In the spring, players can expect Patch 10.0.7. This content update is adding Heritage Armor Questlines for both Humans and Orcs, like the Blood Elf and Dark Iron Dwarf quests during Shadowlands. Additionally, players will get new story quests and repeatable content in the Forbidden Reach–the Dracthyr starting area in Dragonflight. This story content will dive deeper into the story of the Dracthyr and their role in Dragonflight, and set up the next major plot arc and location for World of Warcraft Patch 10.1, arriving sometime between spring and summer.

Players can expect Patch 10.1.5 in the summer, Patch 10.1.7 in the fall, and Patch 10.2 before the end of the year. While not much information is available for these content patches quite yet, World of Warcraft plans to listen to feedback to shape player experience, and is promising more content with less downtime. At the very least, players can expect a megadungeon, holiday and world events, and new story chapters in these patches.

There’s no denying this level of transparency is a welcome change for many World of Warcraft fans. Though the long-running MMORPG has shared future plans in the past, never before has it laid out an entire year’s worth of content so thoroughly. Players are glad to see World of Warcraft following through on its promises to communicate clearly and frequently as it continues to develop Dragonflight, and are optimistic for its future. Should World of Warcraft continue to deliver such a positive experience, Dragonflight could go down as one of the best expansions in WoW’s history.
