World of Warcraft is giving Worgen players a new racial trait in Patch 10.1. This new ability adds a feature that Worgen players have been requesting since World of Warcraft added the Dracthyr in Dragonflight.

Like the Worgen, Dracthyr characters can shift between two independently-customized forms, one of which is used during combat. However, Dracthyr have a special racial trait called Chosen Identity, an ability that allows them to automatically swap back to their humanoid Visage form after leaving combat.

Now, Worgen are getting a similar ability in World of Warcraft’s upcoming patch. Calm the Wolf is a special skill Worgen players will get when they learn Two Forms, the technique that allows them to swap between their werewolf and human forms. When activated, Worgen will automatically shift back into their human form after combat ends. This ability will be added to in Patch 10.1, Embers of Neltharion, and is available now in World of Warcraft’s Public Test Realm.

The Embers of Neltharion patch is getting a lot of other new features to the game beyond this new Worgen racial trait. The new World of Warcraft content update introduces a zone called Zaralek Cavern, plus a continuation of the Dragonflight story. New gear, outdoor activities, and Dragonriding abilities and customizations are coming as well, in addition to Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible, the second raid in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight.

Ever since Dracthyr got the Chosen Identity aesthetic trait, Worgen players have hoped World of Warcraft would give them a similar ability, so they are excited to see Calm the Wolf added to the game. Many players who never made a Worgen character will be more inclined to try it now that they can more easily utilize both of their forms, and the ability’s optional nature means players who wish to stay in their wolf forms indefinitely can simply ignore Calm the Wolf.

Some fans are hoping World of Warcraft will eventually allow Calm the Wolf to let their Worgen characters battle in their human forms. Dracthyr characters are only forced into their draconic forms while using certain Evoker abilities in WoW dependent on their wings, tail, or dragon breath. These Worgen players hope Calm the Wolf will do the same, perhaps only forcing a transformation while attacking or taking damage. While this change is unlikely, the new ability is still in testing, so it is possible Calm the Wolf could be altered based on player feedback before World of Warcraft releases Embers of Neltharion in a few months.

World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
