There's a lot of lore and history to enjoy in Northrend, which is one of the reasons The Wrath of the Lich King expansion for WoW: Classic was the game's peak era. The quests available on the continent are often connected to the legend of Prince Arthas, the Fall of Lordaeron, and the rise of the Scourge, with big events like the Wrathgate to show the forces of Azeroth united against a new Lich King.

However, not everyone is into the more heavy lore, and the folks at Blizzard who write the quests understand that. There are also plenty of adventures available throughout Northrend that are not connected to the tale of Arthas, or a long and involved chain, but are still just as fun. All of the following quests are either available from neutral NPCs or have similar versions for each faction.

6 It Could Be Anywhere! - Shalozar Basin

This is one of those handy quests that's easy to finish by accident while doing other quests. Not only is it simple but also kind of romantic, and it's one of the few quests in Shalozar Basin not directly related to Hemet Nesingwary or the Oracle or Frenzyheart factions.

Find the aptly named Chad at the Nesingwary Base Camp. He's followed his lady love into the wild with an engagement ring in hand, but now he's lost it. Some animal on the basin has it, and while killing both humanoids and animals for other quests it's bound to turn up.

5 "Scoodles"- Howling Fjord

This quest is in the last of a series that includes the Kalu'ak people of Howling Fjord, the Vyrkul, and a band of comical pirates. Most of these quests reward Kalu'ak rep and take place within a small area off the coast of Howling Fjord, so they're worth doing no matter what.

These quests in the "Scoodles" chain have little to do with the lore and involve tasks like catching a frog and roughing up the local vendor for a debt. The last in the chain involves a naughty orca named Scoodles, who's eaten the local vendor's precious scrying crystal. The mission is to slay the orca and return the precious crystal.

4 Dun-da-Dun-tah! - Grizzly Hills

Grizzly Hills WoW Classic

The title of this quest may not make sense at first, but once Harrison Jones appears, it always plays with the familiar music. Several quests in Grizzly Hills can lead the player into the Drakil'jin Ruins, but it's also possible to walk in for no reason and accept this escort quest.

Most of the NPCs in the ruins are neutral as opposed to aggressive, so this is one of the easiest escort quests ever. Some of the ancient ruins get burned or wrecked along the way, but it wouldn't be a quest with Harrison Jones if that didn't happen.

3 Of Keys And Cages - Howling Fjord

This quest is available to both Horde and Alliance players, they just have to get it from different NPCs in their own cities. The quest is part of a short series of two, which in turn forms the central plot of a much longer storyline, and it's easy to stumble over this quest as the player goes further west.

Although the Forsaken might be talked into it, freeing captives that are meant as human sacrifices is something that both Horde and Alliance can agree on. It's also a nice way to gather cloth and other handy items from humanoid enemies at an early point in the grind between 70 and 80.

2 Just Around The Corner - Storm Peaks

Goblins and explosives go together like snow and ice, and in the desolate landscape of Storm Peaks, it makes even more sense. Before running north or east to do the Thorim quests and make friends with the Sons of Hodir, spend some time in the K3 settlement with Jeer Sparksocket.

Jeer has some simple fetch quests that make up a four-part series, which extends into a storyline the player can continue with Jeer's friend Ricket. This quest stands out because it involves a nearby minefield. Bouncing around in here is just plain fun and connected to one of the weirder achievements, Mine Sweeper.

1 Learning To Communicate - Borean Tundra

The reaction most players have to Murlocs is a dramatic one. It's either like or hate with no middle ground, and both sides will enjoy these silly quests that involve dressing up like one and learning their language, among other cultural benefits.

It's not really a chain that makes up this quest and others like it nearby, but a storyline that jumps from one NPC to the other. This is one of the most fun parts because the character finally gets to speak the language of the Murlocs, even if it is the Winterfin dialect in this case. Whether or not these creatures had a real language or just made weird noises is a running joke in the game, and this confirms their society is more sophisticated and humourous than was previously believed.

World of Warcraft: Classic is currently available on PC.
