Players will argue about it until the end of Azerothian time, but there are changes to the game in later expansions that were popular. The addition of Achievements in World of Warcraft: Classic's Wrath of the Lich King expansion is one example. They're clever, fun, and personally rewarding, and everyone likes them.

Some Achievements are impossible to get because they depend on features from an earlier version of the game that no longer exists, and many others are so strange and oddly specific that the player doesn't discover them until they achieve them. There are plenty that lie somewhere in between: weird and obscure, but not so difficult that new or returning players should be discouraged from trying them.

6 Make Love, Not Warcraft

Make Love Not Warcraft, a South Park episode

It's hard to believe now, given how iconic this South Park episode has become, but creator Matt Stone hated it so much that he asked the network execs not to air it. The title was "Make Love, Not Warcraft" and today, there's an achievement named to remember this moment when an RPG leaped from the Nerd Bubble and rode into the mainstream.

This achievement is inspired by the PvP subplot that carries most of the episode, which ends in an epic open-world skirmish along with Stan hugging his dad after his character is mortally wounded. It requires a player to use the emote function to "/hug" an enemy's corpse. A tip for finishing this achievement is to make a macro with the emote and use a hotkey to complete it after winning a duel or watching someone fall in a battleground.

5 What A Long Strange Trip It's Been

Green Protodrake, rare mount, WotLK, WoW

This isn't just one of the toughest achievements, it's also one of the most unique, and there are several other equally creative achievements the player has to complete to get to this point. All of these can be found under the World Events tab, which only happens once a year, making this even more awkward to finish.

All of the initial achievements are associated with the original eight World Events that Azerothians have celebrated since the beginning of Classic WoW. The reward for this is one of the game's rarest mounts, the violet Proto-Drake, a highly prized item.

4 The Fishing Diplomat

fishing in Stormwind City in World Of Warcraft

At first glance, this achievement doesn't look like anything special. The character can fish up anything, after all, and it still counts, but the trick is that they have to fish up one thing in each city. There are two factions in World of Warcraft: Classic, and no matter what class the player chooses, one of these cities will be a hostile one.

It works that half of this one will be so easy that it's a giveaway, but the other will require infiltrating an enemy city and be much more difficult. Most players accomplish this achievement during a raid or when city guards are distracted by special events. For those interested in other Fishing achievements, there are also two elusive fish that lurk in the waters of both Orgrimmar and Stormwind, Old Ironjow and Old Crafty.

3 Leeeeeeeeeeeeeroy!

Leeroy Achievement - Leeroy Jenkins Trivia World of Warcraft

The video featuring the heroic wipe of Leeroy Jenkins elicited plenty of laughter from everyone watching the internet, whether they knew what "MMORPG" stood for or not. It won't surprise anyone that this achievement consists of killing as many rookery whelps in as little time as possible, specifically 50 need to die in 15 seconds or less, in Upper Blackrock Spire.

There's an updated version in retail WoW that features Leeroy as a character, which is also completed in Upper Blackrock Spire, one of the more notoriously difficult Old Azerothian dungeons. It's designed for 10 players and is intended to prepare them for larger endgame raids, like Molten Core, which is located just a few floors below in the same mountain.

2 The Cake Is Not A Lie

World of Warcraft wasn't the only video game juggernaut that was taking over the gaming world 15 years ago. 2007 was also the year of Portal, and it was a completely different game than Warcraft but had just as dedicated a following. This is where the phrase "the cake is a lie" was born, because although the players in Portal were promised a sweet reward for completing the game, there was none. The cake in Portal was a lie, but in the Achievement that uses its name in World of Warcraft, the cake is real.

Players are required to make a Delicious Chocolate Cake. That sounds easy, but it's a lot harder than it looks. Some ingredients are hard to find, like the Small Eggs and bottles of Stormwind Tawny, and only a Herbalist can pick Mageroyal so players often have to buy or trade for it. The really difficult part, however, is finding the recipe for Delicious Chocolate Cake. It's a rare reward players can get from completing the daily Cooking quests or from the Small Spice bag that lower-level players get from basic delivery or fetch quests for shopkeepers.

1 It's Happy Hour Somewhere

This Achievement is more of a challenge to finish before the Wrath of the Lich King expansion drops and the beverages of Northrend become available. Even then, Northrend is a zone for higher-level players, so lowbies can still have some fun searching for 25 beverages in Old Azeroth.

Despite the suggestion in the title, it's not just alcoholic beverages that can count towards this achievement, so players can get creative and finish it without waiting for certain holidays like Brewfest to come around. There's a super-secret tavern near the entrance to the Caverns of Time that sells a few rare vintages and Mages, who can conjure various types of water, can complete this unusual achievement with less effort than other classes.
