With the first World of Warcraft Classic Season of Mastery coming to an end, players on these realms must transfer their characters or else lose them forever. To facilitate this, World of Warcraft has opened up free, one-way realm transfers from these servers to a small selection of Wrath of the Lich King Classic or Classic Era realms.World of Warcraft Classic Season of Mastery is the game’s one-year re-run cycle of Vanilla WoW it began during the Burning Crusade Classic era. After starting about a year ago, the first Season of Mastery cycle has nearly come to an end.RELATED: World of Warcraft: Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm Mount is Going Away when Dragonflight LaunchesThis has led World of Warcraft to announce how future Seasons will end. Once the servers close, all characters still left on the Season of Mastery realm will be permanently deleted. To avoid this, World of Warcraft is offering free transfers to a select group of low-population servers. The server transfers are irreversible and final, and World of Warcraft Classic players will be unable to change it once the selection is made.

World of Warcraft Classic has not given a precise date when the Season of Mastery would end yet. The season first began on November 16, 2021, and was planned to run for between 11 and 13 months. Players can probably expect the Season of Mastery to formally end on November 15, 2022 –coinciding with the second phase of Dragonflight’s Pre-Patch– or December 13, alongside the opening of the Dragonflight raids. A new Season of Mastery will probably be announced some time after.

Players are sad to see the Classic Season of Mastery come to an end, but knew it was inevitable all the same. Players were uncertain what would happen to their characters at the end of the Season of Mastery cycle, and are glad they can keep their characters at all.

That said, many players are annoyed at the heavy restrictions on which realms are available for transfer. North American players can only transfer to Atiesh, Eranikus, Remulos, or Yojamba for Wrath Classic realms, and Mankrik and Whitemane for Classic Era, all low-population realms in World of Warcraft Classic. Many players have characters on other realms, and are annoyed they can’t bring their Season of Mastery characters onto their main worlds, especially since doing so does not actually change the server’s population. Nevertheless, World of Warcraft Classic’s Season of Mastery is ending soon, so players have little choice but to accept the restrictions if they want to save their characters.

World of Warcraft and Wrath of the Lich King Classic are available on PC.
