Now, Classic Hardcore is about to get even harder. Self-Found Mode is an optional restriction coming to World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore on February 29. Players can toggle Self-Found Mode during character creation, which will give them a special Self-Found Adventurer buff. Characters with this buff will be unable to trade, send or receive mail, or use the Auction House, and must rely on their own skills in the ultimate solo challenge. This buff can be permanently deactivated from the Apprentice Watcher NPCs found in most capital cities in World of Warcraft, but there is no way to put it back on besides making a new character.

What is Self-Found Mode in WoW Classic Hardcore?

  • An optional solo-only challenge mode players can toggle on new Classic Hardcore characters starting February 29.
  • Self-Found Adventurers cannot trade, use the Auction House, or send and receive mail, and must rely on their own skills to get gear and gold in World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore.
  • Players can deactivate this restriction from Apprentice Watchers in Ironforge, Darnassus, Orgrimmar, or the Undercity, but it cannot be turned back on once it is removed.

Players have been applying the Self-Found Mode restrictions to themselves for as long as Hardcore modes have existed in World of Warcraft. However, rather than relying purely on the honor system, World of Warcraft’s official Self-Found Mode will both ensure these solo players are obeying the rules while also giving them a badge of honor other fans will be able to see.

There is a lot to be excited about in World of Warcraft Classic right now. Season of Discovery recently started Phase 2, but some World of Warcraft players may have found some Runes from future phases already. There is no official way to play Season of Discovery Hardcore outside self-imposed restrictions, but there are already plenty of fan-run guilds and addons to help players interested in doing so. With all of these options, plus Cataclysm Classic on the way, the retro World of Warcraft servers have more ways to play than ever before.
