One of the World of Warcraft items from the BlizzCon Collection is a Ysera Murloc pet with a hilarious callback to the Legion expansion. This new World of Warcraft minion is available to players who purchase the digital BlizzCon package to celebrate the upcoming convention.

This year, the main stage for BlizzCon will be streamed for free on YouTube and Twitch, so players don’t need to purchase a digital ticket to see what is coming next. Instead, Blizzard is offering the BlizzCon Collection – a slew of digital goodies for Diablo 4, Hearthstone, Overwatch 2, World of Warcraft, and Warcraft Rumble – for sale in both a $30 Epic and $50 Legendary version.

A World of Warcraft fan shows off an impressive collection of nostalgic items they have been keeping safe and unopened since 2009.

One of the World of Warcraft BlizzCon Collection items holds a charming Easter egg for fans of the Legion expansion. The Ysergle pet is a Murloc inspired by Ysera, the former Aspect of the Green Dragonflight, that players get in both BlizzCon Collection packs. While the pet is cute enough on its own, the best part about it is the unique idle animation it has where Ysergle falls asleep, turns translucent, and is slowly drawn towards a dark moon in the sky before waking up and falling down – a comedic callback to the tear-jerking cinematic of Ysera’s death in Legion.

Ysergle is the third Murloc Dragon Aspect players can collect as a battle pet. Deathy, the Deathwing Murloc, was available from the last in-person BlizzCon in 2019, while Murkastrasza, the Alexstrasza Murloc, was given to players who bought the Epic, Heroic, or Collector’s Editions of Dragonflight.

Fans were understandably charmed by the Ysergle minion. The former Green Dragon leader has tons of fans, and her death in Legion and subsequent rebirth in Shadowlands are some of the most memorable moments in each expansion. Judging from the reactions to her animation, the fact that Ysergle reenacts Ysera’s death scene was a shock to many, but one they couldn’t help but laugh about afterward.

However, not everyone is happy with the World of Warcraft BlizzCon Collection item. Murkastrasza was offered as a pet pretty recently, so some think retreading ground with another Murloc Aspect so soon is uninspired. Others are wondering why Ysera was the subject of the minion, considering she was succeeded as Aspect by her daughter Merithra in Dragonflight, and her presence in the expansion is on literal borrowed time. That said, Ysera may have a larger role to play in Guardians of the Dream when it releases on November 7, so players will have to see what World of Warcraft has in store for the former Aspect.

World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
