The listing for a currently-untitled World of Warcraft novel just appeared on Amazon. World of Warcraft players can expect to hear about the book soon and may be able to start reading it before the end of the year.

With nearly 30 years of history, the Warcraft universe has dozens of books available for readers. Historically, World of Warcraft has released a companion novel alongside its expansion packs, such as Shadows Rising for Shadowlands. However, Dragonflight had no such novel announced with it.

Now, it seems World of Warcraft is planning its next novel, though the Amazon listing gives very little information on the actual book. The untitled novel has no listed author, but will likely be published by Random House Worlds. Players can probably assume the novel will tie into Dragonflight, though they can't be certain until its announcement. The novel has a listed release date of October 31, 2023, though this could easily change in the future. The novel could face delays or cancelations, even after it is formally announced.

World of Warcraft recently released Exploring Azeroth: Northrend–the third installment of the journal-like lore book series it began a few years ago. Right now, World of Warcraft is also releasing The Dragonflight Codex: A Definitive Guide to the Dragons of Azeroth, a Dragonflight-themed lore book on August 15, as well as the WoW children’s book, A is for Azeroth: The ABC’s of World of Warcraft, on July 25.

Players are interested to find out what this untitled World of Warcraft novel is about. Its recent expansion left questions on many players' minds, such as the motivation of the Primalists in Dragonflight or the history of Raszageth and the Aspects. This novel may be the chance for World of Warcraft to explore these stories, or perhaps create new vignettes about other characters in the universe.

That said, some players are worried about the new World of Warcraft novel. WoW has a bad habit of hiding some of its most important story developments in books instead of Warcraft video games, forcing players to read every piece of media or risk missing out on major plot arcs. Though pressure from players led World of Warcraft to avoid doing so as much recently, many are already worried this new book could cause WoW to fall into old habits. Players will have to wait until World of Warcraft reveals what this untitled book is about and see if it will be required reading to enjoy Dragonflight.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
