With 2023 drawing to a close, Blizzard revealed its plans for World of Warcraft in 2024 with two roadmaps for both the classic and retail versions of the game. Both roadmaps showed World of Warcraft players when to expect the next major updates to Dragonflight and The War Within, and confirmed that Season of Discovery and Classic Hardcore would continue alongside Cataclysm Classic.

The roadmap for 2024 followed in the footsteps of the 2023 roadmap for World of Warcraft. With features such as the Trading Post, more heritage armor quests, and two more seasons of raids and mythic dungeons, the 2023 roadmap gave WoW players some expectations for the year that followed. Suffice it to say, Blizzard has kept to that roadmap, and chose to bring back the format for the game's 20th anniversary.
