Highlights

  • The upcoming Wonder Woman video game from Monolith Productions will not be a live service game, contrary to speculation from a job listing.
  • Warner Bros. clarified that the game is a single-player open world experience, easing concerns of fans.
  • The game will feature the Nemesis System, an innovative feature from Monolith's previous game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Despite a job listing hinting at the contrary, it seems that the upcoming Wonder Woman video game from Monolith Productions will not be a live service game after all. Wonder Woman was first announced at The Game Awards 2021, and there hasn't been much in the way of substantial updates on the project since then. Monolith hasn't put out a game since 2017's Middle-earth: Shadow of War, and so many fans are understandably anxious to see more of its Wonder Woman project.

While the Wonder Woman game has been mostly kept under-wraps since its initial announcement, a recent job listing led many fans to believe that it would be a live service game. The Wonder Woman job listing said that Monolith was looking for someone with experience in live service games to work on the project, leading to the speculation. Live service games can be incredibly divisive, and so many fans were worried when this job listing came to light.

Rumor: Wonder Woman Developer Could Be Working On Multiple DC Tie-In Games

A rumor hints that Monolith Studios, the developer behind Shadow of Mordor and the upcoming Wonder Woman game, could have more DC titles in the works.

To help ease concerns, Warner Bros. issued a statement to IGN where it clarified that Wonder Woman is a single-player open world game and not a live service title. "Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service," the statement read. Now, this doesn't mean that Wonder Woman will be devoid of microtransactions, but at least fans don't have to worry about it being a live service game and being burdened with everything that comes along with that label.

Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service.

Beyond the fact that it is a single-player open world game and not a live service, pretty much the only other detail fans know for sure about the Wonder Woman game is that it will feature the Nemesis System. Monolith innovated the Nemesis System with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, making it possible for all enemies in the game to remember the player's actions, responding accordingly and establishing a relationship between the player and even the lowest-level enemies in the game. It will definitely be interesting to see how this system works in Wonder Woman, so hopefully more information on the project is revealed sooner rather than later.

Since Wonder Woman was first revealed at The Game Awards in 2021, perhaps it will be featured again at this year's event. The Game Awards 2023 will no doubt feature plenty of big game reveals and announcements, and since Wonder Woman has been basically MIA for the last two years, it seems like this year's event would be the perfect time to re-introduce the game to the masses. Fans shouldn't hold their breath, though, especially since WB will likely want to keep the attention on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for now.
