Wonder Woman actor Chris Pine has recently suggested he will not return to DC or Marvel, indicating his time as Steve Trevor is finished.

Perhaps best known for his role as Admiral Kirk in J. J. Abrams' Star Trek, Pine made his DC debut as Steve Trevor in 2017 alongside Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman. In the following year, he voiced a Peter Parker variant in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse at Marvel before hopping back to DC for Wonder Woman 1984. When the busy actor did not return for Marvel's Spider-Verse sequel and instead opted for notable roles outside the comic book world, speculation arose that Pine may be done with superheroes for good.

This speculation was seemingly confirmed in a recent interview with ComicBook. When asked whether he would return to the DCEU or the MCU, Pine succinctly replied, "No." Pine did not want to linger on the topic and was confident in his decision to distance himself from the franchises. During the interview, Pine was focused on promoting his upcoming animated film Wish from the Oscar-winning director of Frozen and Frozen 2.

The perceived lack of hesitation in Pine's answer garnered mixed responses from fans. Some have expressed respect for his firm choice to tackle more challenging roles, like his role in Olivia Wilde's controversial film Don't Worry Darling. Meanwhile, others have criticized his seemingly abrupt rejection of anything Marvel or DC, questioning his recent blockbuster roles like in Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and wondering why he's drawn a line in the sand.

For now, the reason Pine is no longer interested in attaching himself to the comic book companies remains uncertain. However, it may be because box office trends are shifting away from superhero movies. Although they have dominated the industry for years, James Gunn's new ten-year plan for DC and Marvel Studios' push to lift their declining box office numbers both point towards a change in the wind, and this isn't the first time this year fans have heard actors say "no" to superheroes. Recently, Euphoria's Jacob Elordi declined an audition for Superman, and even Leonardo DiCaprio was quoted advising Timothée Chalamet: "No hard drugs and no superhero movies."

Given the recent release of Dungeons and Dragons and his ongoing press tour for Wish, it's clear that Pine isn't going anywhere. While the Star Trek actor may continue to catch flack from fans for his decision, it's important to remember that movies are the best when actors are passionate about their roles. If Pine lacks interest in the DCEU or the MCU, they may be better off without him.

Wonder Woman and WW84 are currently streaming on Max.
