Wonder Woman actor Chris Pine has recently suggested he will not return to DC or Marvel, indicating his time as Steve Trevor is finished.
Perhaps best known for his role as Admiral Kirk in J. J. Abrams' Star Trek, Pine made his DC debut as Steve Trevor in 2017 alongside Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman. In the following year, he voiced a Peter Parker variant in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse at Marvel before hopping back to DC for Wonder Woman 1984. When the busy actor did not return for Marvel's Spider-Verse sequel and instead opted for notable roles outside the comic book world, speculation arose that Pine may be done with superheroes for good.
This speculation was seemingly confirmed in a recent interview with ComicBook. When asked whether he would return to the DCEU or the MCU, Pine succinctly replied, "No." Pine did not want to linger on the topic and was confident in his decision to distance himself from the franchises. During the interview, Pine was focused on promoting his upcoming animated film Wish from the Oscar-winning director of Frozen and Frozen 2.
The perceived lack of hesitation in Pine's answer garnered mixed responses from fans. Some have expressed respect for his firm choice to tackle more challenging roles, like his role in Olivia Wilde's controversial film Don't Worry Darling. Recently, Euphoria's Jacob Elordi declined an audition for Superman, and even Leonardo DiCaprio was quoted advising Timothée Chalamet: "No hard drugs and no superhero movies."
