Wonder Woman may be in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but not how fans expect. It could be that Shazam! Fury of the Gods features a “fake” Wonder Woman that resembles her DCEU counterpart played by Gal Gadot but isn’t her.Due to studio differences between Warner Bros. and Henry Cavill, the first Shazam featured a cameo by a headless Superman played by Zachary Levi's body double, and it appears that Shazam! Fury of the Gods may do something similar with Wonder Woman. It was initially rumored that Gadot had filmed scenes for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but this may not have been the case.RELATED: Patty Jenkins Denies Claims That She Walked Away From Wonder Woman 3The Direct reports on a press release that reveals Taylor Cahill will play a “fake Wonder Woman” in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Hans Zimmer and Tom Holkenborg's Wonder Woman theme “Is She With You,” first featured in Batman v Superman, is also expected to be used, presumably in an action scene. Even so, it is unclear what role a “fake Wonder Woman” will have in the film. However, it can be speculated that it would involve magic and possibly a comedic effect similar to the Superman cameo in the first film, as Billy Batson has an infatuation with Wonder Woman not unlike Freddy's with Superman.

Since the Wonder Woman toy from Shazam! Fury of the Gods isn’t marketed as a fake version of the character it could also be that this is supposed to be the DCEU Wonder Woman and that the film will hide Cahill's face through clever editing. Glimpses of the DCEU design were shown in trailers without revealing the actor’s face, further suggesting that it could be Cahill. However, the Superman cameo in the first Shazam was controversial among fans, so it may not be wise for the studio to use the same trick twice. Even so, it was reported that Cavill's Superman and Gadot's Wonder Woman were cut from The Flash and Batman from Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, so it seems this is the price to pay for Shazam! Fury of the Gods to keep its Wonder Woman cameo with the DCU reboot on the way.

This may not have been what Billy Batson actor Asher Angel had meant when he expressed wanting Shazam to crossover with other DC Universe characters, especially if it is done in a way that audiences have considered a cop-out before. There is still much uncertainty surrounding Wonder Woman's involvement and whether Gadot is actually in the film. Either way, fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be released in theaters on March 17, 2023.
