James Gunn is reshaping DC Studios with a completely different universe of films. However, after a recent interview with Gal Gadot, it seems like she may return to play Wonder Woman despite what fans had thought.

Gunn had to make some tough decisions when deciding to reboot the DCEU into the DCU, and that started with choosing whether to recast DC's trinity. Cavill and Affleck's contracts were up, and with Gunn deciding to reboot, he chose not to rehire them, which is upsetting for some fans. Fans assumed Gadot would not return as Wonder Woman, but Gunn clarified that she had not been fired. However, fans still presumed her role in The Flash would be her last appearance as Wonder Woman.

In a recent interview with ComicBook about her role in Netflix's Heart of Stone, Gadot talked about returning to play Wonder Woman and that she would be working with Gunn and Safran to make the film. "I love portraying Wonder Woman," Gadot says. "It's so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we're gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together."

At the moment, little is known about Wonder Woman 3, as it is probably still early in development and has not been officially announced by DC Studios. It's unclear if Wonder Woman 3 will be a part of the new DCU, stay in the DCEU, or be an Elseworlds story. Additionally, it is unclear if Patty Jenkins, who directed the first two films, will return to direct the third. However, Gadot may have more creative control because she is developing it with Gunn and Safran.

This Wonder Woman 3 news will likely upset many fans furious about Cavill and Affleck being let go. After all, it does beg the question, why are some characters being recast and others aren't? Additionally, until there are more details, there will probably be more confusion about whether this film is a part of the DCU.

Gadot was initially signed on for Wonder Woman 3 before Gunn became DC Studios' co-CEO. Cavill and Affleck weren't signed on for any more movies, so it could be that Gadot is contractually obligated to make Wonder Woman 3.
