When Gal Gadot reprises her role as Diana Prince in Wonder Woman 1984, she will be joined a cast of supporting players both new and familiar. Now, Warner Bros. has released four posters for Wonder Woman 1984 that spotlight Chris Pine's Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig's Cheetah, and Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord.

Originally slated to hit theaters in June 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 was pushed back twice this year on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. While Warner Bros. had announced the highly-anticipated sequel would be released in theaters on Christmas day 2020, there had been speculation regarding another delay in the weeks following the decision. Ultimately, the studio decided to release Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max, free of charge to subscribers, day-and-date with theaters in the United States.

Set during the Cold War, Wonder Woman 1984 will see Diana Prince reuniting with Steve Trevor, who has inexplicably returned despite sacrificing himself to thwart Ares' plan during the First World War. Their efforts to make up for lost time are hindered when Diana comes into conflict with wealthy media tycoon Maxwell Lord. Complicating matters further is the transformation of Barbara Minerva, a friend of Diana's, who soon becomes an adversary after being endowed with Cheetah-like abilities. The new Wonder Woman 1984 posters released by IGN turn the spotlight on each character individually while capturing the colorful and psychedelic aesthetic of the '80s.

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins returns to the helm the sequel, and intends to return for the third chapter of the film series. However, Jenkins said Wonder Woman 3 will likely be her final time at the helm of the franchise. Fortunately, the benefit of knowing when her tenure with the Wonder Woman films will come to an end has inspired her to leave no stone unturned with the third installment. "The next one is probably my last Wonder Woman movie, so I have to put everything I want to show there. We have to think carefully," she said in an interview.

American moviegoers hoping to take advantage of HBO Max's 7-day free trial ahead of Wonder Woman 1984's debut on the streamer are out of luck. WarnerMedia is suspending the offer in favor of a 22 percent discount to new and returning users who purchase a six-month subscription.

Those living in countries where theaters remain closed or HBO Max is not yet available will face a dilemma of their own. While Warner Bros. has set international theatrical release dates for Wonder Woman 1984, with some countries receiving the sequel before the U.S. in an effort to prevent piracy, there does not appear to be any plans to make the film available on VOD globally at this time.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in theaters and on HBO Max in the U.S. on December 25, 2020.
