A new leak is giving fans a glimpse at how traversal will work in Marvel’s Wolverine, and it looks very similar to developer Insomniac’s previous comic book games. Insomniac announced that it was building upon its already successful Marvel gaming universe with a Wolverine game way back in 2021, with Spec Ops: The Line writer Walt D. Williams lending his talents to a story that is reportedly much darker and grittier than the more lighthearted Marvel’s Spider-Man games.

While there haven’t been too many official Marvel’s Wolverine announcements since its PlayStation Showcase 2021 reveal, many details about the game have been leaked since the now-infamous Insomniac data breach last winter. In addition to the game’s plot, characters, and voice cast, the alpha footage and source code unearthed in these leaks have hinted that Marvel’s Wolverine will feature healing that mirrors one of Logan’s signature mutant abilities, as well as a trip to the iconic X-Mansion.

Marvel's Wolverine Shouldn't Be Afraid to Show a Different Side of Logan

Last year's Insomniac leaks suggest a major narrative opportunity for Marvel's Wolverine, which should be capitalized on to flesh out Logan.

Yet another potential snippet of Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay was recently shared by 404LEAK_ on Twitter, with a post on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours discussing the footage. The video consists of a brief clip of Wolverine in a version of his famous yellow-and-blue X-Men costume navigating a city street at night, using his Adamantium claws to scale up buildings and jump across rooftops. Many have pointed out the similarities between this supposed traversal gameplay and the mechanics found in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, while others are comparing it to Xbox’s Crackdown series.

Marvel’s Wolverine Could Have Spider-Man-Style Traversal

This wasn’t the only new Marvel’s Wolverine footage leaked recently, as a YouTube user named Chris J also posted a scene taken from an unofficial Wolverine PC build that shows more of the game’s traversal system in action as Logan travels through a town in search of a place called “Princess Bar.” Once he finds the place, he has to defend himself from a squad of ninjas by slashing at them with his claws and throwing items like bar stools and beer bottles. Just like Peter in Spider-Man 2, Logan seemingly can activate some kind of enhanced stage by pressing the joysticks after receiving enough damage.

It should be noted that this leaked Marvel’s Wolverine footage was taken from an unfinished build of the game, and could very likely have been changed or upgraded since it was first unearthed in the Insomniac ransomware attack. As more of these leaks and potential spoilers continue to surface online, fans are being advised to take the information presented in them with a grain of salt until more concrete details are unveiled.
