One part of player builds that gamers sometimes forget about in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is their preferred companions. Companions may never approach what the player can deal in damage, but their contributions toward support and tanking should not be denied.
With a host of benefits, players can sometimes beat a tough boss in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty by blocking and parrying while their reinforcements do the hard work of whittling the enemy down. However, the default companion or no companion at all can actually hinder the character on certain maps. Don't be afraid to switch to a better companion if the situation calls for it.
Changing Companions
- Get to a Battle Flag.
- Select 'Reinforcements.'
- Choose 1-2 companions (costs 1 Tiger Seal each).
When reaching a save point, interact with the Battle Flag and choose reinforcements. Keep in mind that, due to cutscene requirements for the story, some reinforcements are required. Still, even if one can't be replaced, players can use two companions on a mission, so go ahead and grab a second.
This process does require a Tiger Seal. So long as the companions don't die, almost every mission will give more than two Tiger Seals, essentially covering the cost. This also builds up their oath level simply by having them equipped. Their morality and fortitude can be increased to increase their strength going into a final boss fight.
There are a few occasions where players do not like to use companions. On some fights, trying to block and parry can be a hassle if the boss is constantly switching targets between teammates and the character. But, generally speaking, it's best to have companions around. Even if they run out of HP, their bodies can block projectiles until their health bar completely drains. If they are truly liabilities, simply don't summon them back after losing a fight.
