Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has been released and fans have been loving the new Souls-Like game. The unique combat and various mechanics introduced have given fans a lot to learn though, and one of the most varied mechanics is phase spells, which include many different types.

Of the five main types of phase spells, fire is the best for dealing with metal-focused enemies. Fire is also great for causing damage and focuses on either dealing direct fire damage to enemies or buffing player weapons, so they will be more able to do damage to enemies. Choosing the very best of the fire phase spells to use commonly in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty can be a difficult task, but the game has been celebrated for having just that much choice.

6 Engulfing Inferno

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Engulfing Inferno

One of the more expensive, high-level skills in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, but worth the wait for the great visual of its use. Engulfing Inferno simply throws up pillars of flame which can deal out a huge volume of damage to enemies. In theory, Engulfing Inferno should be the very best out of all the fire phase spells in the game.

However, the time taken for the spell to work, while providing time for players to back away, lowers the suddenness and effectiveness of Engulfing Inferno somewhat. Though it is a powerful spell, it is also very costly and that can make it a dangerous one to use. Still, the visual of this spell will make it a must-have for flashier players who enjoy putting on a show with their combat skills.

5 Amplify Damage

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Amplify Damage

At the opposite end of the scale is Amplify Damage, an early-game skill that is seriously useful in the opening act of the game. When players are attempting to get through some of the earlier fights and perhaps aren’t as good at blocking as they need to be yet, spells such as Amplify Damage which can increase the damage done by the weapon of the player will always have a use.

A spell like this can be buffed to stay relevant to a player’s arsenal as Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty goes on. But particularly in the early running, this will be a necessary component of any fire-based build. Amplify Damage can be gained from fire virtue level 8, meaning it can’t be gained immediately at the beginning of the game but can be reached with hard work fairly early.

4 Scorch Sweep

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Scorch Sweep

Another great spell for doing damage to a crowd of enemies, Scorch Sweep isn’t gained until fire virtue level 20, making it another late-game addition to the arsenal of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty players. However, while expensive, it is great for clearing enemies out, as it emits a cone of fire in a wide AOE around the player.

This is another fire spell that does solid, continuous damage to enemies struck by it, and has a great look. It’s pretty much a flamethrower, and players who want to watch the world burn will particularly enjoy letting this spell loose as often as possible. This fiery kind of offense has drawn comparisons from Wo Long to Elden Ring.

3 Fire Bolt

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Fire Bolt

While it may be surprising to see one of the very first fire phase spells on this list, Fire Bolt is not to be underestimated. This spell is gained extremely early in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Players will only have to wait until fire virtue level 2 before receiving this spell, which allows players to throw a simple bolt of fire out at enemies.

While this is definitely basic, Fire Bolt can be extremely useful as an early-game spell. With a low consumption rate and a strong piece of damage done to any enemies struck by the Fire Bolt, players will be able to get out of tight situations early-game for a relatively cheap spirit consumption rate. This sort of spell and its value to a playthrough of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty should definitely not be underestimated.

2 Bursting Fireball

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Bursting Fireball

Bursting Fireball is another later-game spell, unlocked at fire virtue level 15. This makes it more of a mid-game spell, as players focusing on fire virtue can get to this level rather quickly, enabling them to gain this hugely tactical spell. Similar to Fire Bolt, Bursting Fireball is a projectile of fire that players can unleash on opponents, but this one splits into smaller fireballs after being shot. Fire damage doesn't deal much with status effects, but it is powerful.

Doing great damage, giving the option to focus on a single enemy or attack multiple ones with the various pieces of fireball, and being unlockable early enough in the game, and at a reasonable enough spirit consumption rate, to enable players to get a lot of mileage out of it.

1 Fireblast

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Fireblast

The best overall fire phase spell in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has to be the simple Fireblast spell. Unlocked at fire virtue level 4, this spell comes into play early in the game. This means it has a manageable consumption rate. But it stays useful for a shockingly long time and is a huge saver for many players when they are caught in a corner. This variety in spells helps Wo Long set itself apart from other Souls-like games.

Similar to Fire Bolt and Bursting Fireball, Fireblast sends out a projectile that deals fire damage to opponents. However, this spell will explode on impact with enemies or the terrain around the player if it hits something like a rock or wall. This means in the most desperate situations when players are truly trapped in a corner, Fireblast is a surefire way to make a quick escape or at least distract and damage enemies for a cheap consumption of spirit.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was released on March 3rd, 2023, and is available on Playstation 4&5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
