Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is the next big action game from the developers at Team Ninja. While the studio had its breakthrough with franchises like Ninja Gaiden and the fighting series Dead or Alive, the developer has since delved into the Souslike genre with the Action RPG franchise Nioh. The first Nioh would go on to become a critical hit as well as find a wide audience with fans, eventually giving way to a sequel that launched 3 years later in 2020.

Building off of that success, Team Ninja launched its latest game, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. While retaining much of the core combat systems from Nioh, while adding in some new elements including much deeper customization to tailor play styles to how fans want as well as an increasingly important parry system similar to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Loot also makes up a good portion of player character builds, impacting a variety of stats that could potentially mean the difference between life or death against a major boss.

Part of those stats Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty players should be on the lookout for are elemental effects. With five different ones available on weapons and spells, they each can have a big impact on combat by enhancing attacks during important battles against fierce bosses in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Here is what each one does and how to cure it.

Shock

Lightning-based weapons or spells can cause the Shock effect to take place after a meter builds to maximum. Once that happens, Toxin resistance lowers and Spirit gain is gradually reduced. For the player, Spirit is similar to the stamina bar and is necessary to perform combat actions. So any sort of debuff to Spirit can quickly become a big problem, especially during combat.

In order to clear the Shock status, players should cast a spell or use an item that grants a Metal Positive effect. This will also help clear any negative effects that come from the Wood stat.

Burn

This element is commonly associated with fire, causing burning damage over time when applied to the player or an enemy as well as reducing Ice resistance.

As expected, a water related buff, such as Water Phase will remove the burn and any other effects from the fire element. In addition, players can roll to also cure a Burn effect.

Chill

Commonly applied by ice empowered weapons or spells, getting the Chill effect reduces Stone related resistance and slows spirit regeneration while in low spirit while also increasing Spirit depletion when using Spirit-heavy attacks. Naturally, this lowers the amount of combat tactics available for players.

Using Earth related buffs or items cure Chill and any other ailments related to Earth.

Poison

Toxic related weapons and spells apply Poison status and once at maximum, the target takes damage over time to their health and spirit, suffer reduced flame resistance, and prevents any other negative effects from improving.

Players can cure any Poison status by using a Fire Phase buff or item, also solving other ailments related to the Metal stat tree.

Heaviness

The final status effect that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty players should be on the lookout for is called Heaviness, which originates from stone empowered weapons or spells. With Heaviness applied, Lightning resistance is lowered, and the player won't be able to regenerate Spirit nearly as fast while also taking more Spirit damage.

The fastest way to remove Heaviness is by using a Wood Phase positive effect item or spell which also cure other Earth-based debuffs.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
