With the release date of The Witcher season 2 steadily approaching, fans are eager for any information they can find. Luckily, series star Henry Cavill has come to the rescue, offering fans a short tease of what’s to come in season 2. He took to social media and shared a brief video that highlighted dramatic scenes in succession. In fact, the only words spoken throughout the duration of the teaser are “run” and “salvation.”

Those keywords seem to be there for a reason, illuminating Cavill’s never-ending chase of hunting down the most wicked. Salvation seems to be a necessity for Cavill’s character Geralt of Rivia, and the teaser alludes to a theme of protection and preservation that will be prominent in season 2. The Witcher season 1 finale ended with the reunion of Geralt and Ciri. Geralt finally finds himself aligned and believing in his innate destiny. The use of the word salvation in the teaser might be hinting at the many ways Geralt will have to teach Ciri the ropes.

The dynamic of their relationship will most likely play a massive role in The Witcher season 2. Geralt must teach Ciri how to preserve her magic while simultaneously protecting her from all threats. By choosing to drop a short teaser for fans, Cavill also reveals his character’s new and improved armor. Cavill went straight to the main source of wisdom for his caption by quoting the author of the book series, Andrezj Sapkowsi. The quote reads, “it may turn out, said the white-haired man a moment later, that their comrades or cronies may ask what befell these evil men. Tell them the Wolf bit them. The White Wolf. And add that they should keep glancing over their shoulders. One day they’ll look back and see the Wolf.”

The bone-chilling quote from the author himself matches the teaser’s essence perfectly - with its haunting music accompanied by rapid images of heavy chains and swords puncturing their targets. Although The Witcher season 2's production was heavily affected by the pandemic, shutting down on two separate occasions due to positive COVID-19 cases and then again after Cavill suffered an on-set injury, fans have other complications and critiques to attend to.

The fan’s criticism and upcoming storylines that they would like to see moving forward have greatly impacted the trajectory of The Witcher season 2. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has announced that the timeline for season 2 has gone through some massive adjustments and tweaks as a result. The previous season told a non-linear narrative and took place over several different periods, which proved to be confusing for some viewers.

As for when to expect The Witcher season 2 premiere, that is still so up in the air. However, it has been confirmed that the series will, without a doubt, be dropped at some point this year - most likely around fall/winter.

The Witcher season 1 is now available on Netflix.
