Season 1 of The Witcher was a big hit for Netflix, and the streaming service seems to be hoping that The Witcher Season 2 will have similar success. Season 2 of The Witcher may be even better than season 1, especially now that all three main characters are on the same timeline. But will The Witcher Season 2 succeed? Is it possible for it to live up to the hype for fans? Or is it destined to disappoint them?

Of course, only time will honestly tell. Yet, it is still possible to speculate on whether or not fans will enjoy The Witcher Season 2. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, the animated movie that tells the origin story of Geralt's mentor Vesemir, and all Witchers, did relatively well on Netflix. It might not have reached the same highs as the Netflix series, but that is possibly because it was a different format from the show. Nevertheless, it was an exciting addition to the Witcher world. Season 2 will most likely be the same in that respect.

The Witcher Season 2 will have Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Ciri (Freya Allan) going to Kaer Morhen, a location that was shown in its prime for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Fans will get to meet an older, live-action version of Vesemir, portrayed by Kim Bodnia. Yennefer's (Anya Chalotra) fate is less certain, except that she will be in big trouble after the battle at the end of season 1 and will most likely be captured by Nilfgaard or some other enemy force. Hopefully, Geralt and Ciri will rescue her, and then The Witcher Season 2 will unite all three of the main characters.

Even if that doesn't happen, The Witcher Season 2 seems like it will be a treat for fans. Not only will fans get to see the characters they know and love from season 1, but new characters are also set to join the series. One such character is Nivellen (Kristofer Hivju), a man who is cursed to look like a beast. The Continent's dark twist on Beauty and the Beast will likely captivate fans. As will other newer characters such as Philippa Eilhart (Cassie Clare), a mage who advises the King of Redania, and Nenneke (Adjoa Andoh), a priestess at the temple of Melitele who has nursed Geralt back to health in the past. These and other new characters will probably allow fans to see a different side to the characters they already know and love in The Witcher Season 2.

Fans, especially those of the Witcher games, will also likely look forward to seeing Geralt and Ciri and possibly Yennefer, too, trying to escape from the Wild Hunt. Yet new characters and different enemies are not all that The Witcher Season 2 will have to recommend it. As mentioned above, the timeline in The Witcher Season 2 will be more linear than in season 1. As many fans were somewhat confused by the constant jumping around in time, these fans will be grateful to hear that such things will be less prominent in The Witcher Season 2. So will season 2 live up to the hype? Or is The Witcher Season 2 destined to disappoint its many fans?

Netflix is probably hoping for the former rather than the latter. If The Witcher Season 2 reaches the popularity that season 1 did, it will be viewed as a success and worthy of all the hype. Many things could add to its success, from new characters to a more linear narrative to the three main characters possibly being united at one point. After waiting for all of season 1 for Ciri to find Geralt, it was satisfying to see them finally meet up. Fans will likely be glad to watch Ciri and Geralt's relationship develop in The Witcher Season 2. And if Yennefer is added into the mix, all of season 1, timelines and all, would've been worth it.

Geralt and Ciri in The Witcher season 2 trailer

It is hard to know for sure without seeing the show itself, yet The Witcher Season 2 certainly has a lot that fans are likely to appreciate. From the main trio of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, to secondary characters from season 1 such as Jaskier, to new characters introduced in season 2, including new Witchers, fans have a lot to look forward to. If the writers of The Witcher Season 2 can build on the success of season 1 while making season 2 stand on its own enough to stand out, it will likely live up to the hype. Fans have had to wait a long time for The Witcher Season 2. Only time will tell if it lives up to fans' expectations, yet so far there are good signs. It seems that The Witcher Season 2 will build on what fans loved about season 1, while doing its own thing as well. And that is likely what fans want from the Netflix series.
