The world of The Witcher is full of compelling characters. Who fans connect with most will vary from person to person. Some fans might be surprised at the characters that other fans connect with. However, who is the most interesting character? Well, it isn't Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill). Not that Geralt isn't an intriguing character. He absolutely is. Yet he is not the most exciting character in The Witcher. That honor goes to another character. However, the story would not be the same without all of its characters, including secondary characters.

The Continent would not be the same without Geralt's presence, even if other characters might be more interesting. The story is known as The Witcher, after all. Geralt is definitely a crucial character and an intriguing one. He is a great protagonist, yet he doesn't hold that role alone. There is a character that is definitely more interesting. This character arguably takes on more of a traditional fantasy protagonist role than Geralt does. They are also a powerful and compelling character in their own right. So who is this character? Who makes Geralt look less interesting? That's quite a feat for any character.

It's quite a thing for a character to be more compelling than the protagonist of the story. Yet this character absolutely is. Ready to find out who and why? The character is no one else but Ciri (Freya Allan) of Cintra. The young woman is absolutely a more intriguing character than Geralt is in The Witcher. To understand why one needs to take a closer look at her story. Ciri grows up living quite a pampered life. She is the princess of Cintra and her grandmother Queen Calanthe (Jodhi May) protects her. Yet Ciri does not seem to be solely a spoiled princess.

ciri in the witcher tv show

From the beginning, at least in Netflix's version of The Witcher, she seems to find palace life a bit limiting. She sneaks out of her home and makes jokes with her adoptive grandfather Eist Tuirseach (Björn Hlynur Haraldsson). Then comes the fall of Cintra. Her grandmother Queen Calanthe's last words to her involve finding Geralt. That sends Ciri away from everyone and everything she knows into the unknown. She has no one to protect her anymore and faces many dangers.

Luckily, for Ciri, she has abilities that she is just beginning to discover. When a Nilfgaardian soldier chases her, her abilities save her. They come in handy several times throughout season 1 of the show. And in the end, she meets Geralt, her mission from her grandmother accomplished.

Yet what is in store for Ciri now? What is her destiny, besides finding Geralt? Fans will have to wait for season 2 of The Witcher to find out. Season 2 of the Netflix series is definitely going to be exciting. In fact, it has the potential to be even better than the first. However, fans do not have to wait to find out why Ciri is such an intriguing character. At the beginning of the story, she lives a very safe and happy life with her grandmother Queen Calanthe. Then, when Cintra falls, she is forced to go out on her own and look for Geralt. That story of going from safety to danger is definitely interesting. As is Ciri as a person.

Throughout season 1, she's mostly running away from whatever dangers she encounters. However, fans can also see her resilience. After all, she goes through a lot. Yet she never seems to lose hope entirely. That quality of being able to continue on with life, no matter what she encounters is also interesting. However, Ciri is not unrealistically optimistic. No. She knows that life can be hard, but she keeps going on anyway. And that's admirable. She is also intriguing because of her friendly nature.

the witcher netflix episode 4 review

Though Ciri does become somewhat hardened with time, she makes friends throughout The Witcher Season 1. It's possible she will continue to do so in season 2, even after all she's been through. And that's also interesting. Her ability to still believe in the good in others even when she's seen the worst of humanity is definitely compelling. As are her powers and abilities. Because of them, she is a more typical fantasy protagonist than Geralt is. She is special not solely because of who she is inside but also because of what she can do. However, her personality is the main factor in what makes her so intriguing. She is also a more typical fantasy protagonist because she actively goes after her destiny. Throughout season 1 of The Witcher, Ciri actively searches for Geralt. She doesn't just let him find her.

In season 2, she will probably take just as much of an active role in her life, if not more so. Therefore, she will continue to be a compelling character. And might even become more so. Of course, not every fan of The Witcher will agree that Ciri is more interesting than Geralt, or that she's a more typical fantasy protagonist. However, she is definitely an intriguing character. Most fans would probably agree with that. And her personality as well as her abilities make her an exciting character to follow.
