After a couple of delays, developer CD Projekt Red says that PS5 and Xbox Series versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are still planned for 2022. Considered one of the most immersive open-world games in recent history, the third entry in the series is beloved by fans of the fantasy genre, role-playing titles, great storytelling, or a combination of all three. Those who own a current-gen system have been waiting patiently for the game to be ported to the newer consoles.

It looks like there won't be much longer to wait, either. Given that CD Projekt Red is working on a new Witcher entry, it seems evident that the Polish studio is returning to the series that made it a household name in the industry from the start. While the developer did branch out in 2020 for the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077, the expansive sci-fi title was poorly received at the time due to a litany of game-breaking bugs, which are being patched out with numerous updates but has caused CDPR's reputation to fall.

That said, at least The Witcher 3 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. According to a recent report from VGC, during an earnings call this week, the studio's joint CEO Adam Kiciński said the team is "on track" to get the current-gen versions of its massively successful title out by late 2022. The RPG was originally due to get ported in 2021 but was pushed back to April of this year. However, CDPR then had to delay it again, though it looks as though fans will finally get to see The Witcher 3 on current-gen consoles before this year is over. The project has been handed back to the developer after originally being ported by Saber Interactive, who worked on the Switch version of the game.

Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher 3

While it's The Witcher series that the company is best known for, the team is still hard at work keeping Cyberpunk 2077 up to date, patching out yet more bugs, as well as unveiling some DLC recently. While the game has left a mark on the industry as being one of the most disastrous launches of this generation, the studio is at least working to improve things.

On top of the upcoming ports and Cyberpunk DLC, CD Projekt Red confirmed earlier this year that a new Witcher game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Not much is known about the next entry in the series, but the studio has said that it won't be called Witcher 4. No doubt many fans will be interested to see where the franchise goes from here.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with versions for PS5 and Xbox Series coming late 2022.
