The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an open-world RPG that has earned its place as one of the greatest video games ever made. The game was already a peach to look at and featured a veritable treasure trove of content, and now the next-gen update has given players another reason to dive into this amazing world once again. Players can get lost for hours upon hours as they venture through the game's many areas, discover hidden secrets, and encounter a wide range of memorable characters.

That being said, the quests of The Witcher 3 are of such high quality that it makes the more annoying ones of the bunch stand out that much more. It's a minor complaint given the sheer scope of this game, but there are times when playing through the game feels less like fun and more like a chore that players are forced to get through so that they can get to the good part.

10 In Wolf's Clothing

Morkvarg the werewolf from the Witcher 3

Initially, the quest to free Morkvarg from his curse starts out on a strong note, his backstory and the circumstances themselves being pretty interesting. However, it's when players get to interact with this werewolf that they realize what they've signed up for.

Morkvarg's voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard, with this cursed being attacking Geralt multiple times and initiating truly grating lines of dialogue after every defeat. It doesn't help that the ruin itself is somewhat irritating to navigate, leading to players circling around the location multiple times before figuring out what they have to do.

9 Broken Flowers

The Broken Flowers quest in The Witcher 3

Dandelion is a pretty great character. Many fans of the series were already huge fans of this character before the third game came out. This made it quite irritating that he wasn't around in Novigrad when Geralt arrives, especially since he's the key to figuring out what happened to Ciri.

On top of this, Geralt has to locate and speak with many of his past flames, which can be a slow and arduous process. The characters themselves are fun to interact with, but the act of locating each and every one of them to engage in drawn-out conversations that repeat most of the same points over and over again is far from engaging.

8 The Isle Of Mists

The narcoleptic dwarf in the Isle of Mists quests in The Witcher 3

The Isle of Mists starts out on a pretty strong note...and ends on one too. However, there's one part in the middle that really grinds players' gears, and most people know where this is going already.

One of the dwarves that players need to escort back to his friends is narcoleptic and falls asleep multiple times while Geralt is escorting him. If that wasn't bad enough as is, the route is not exactly short and the dwarf is pretty slow too.

7 Paperchase

Paperchase in The Witcher 3

While the Asterix & Obelix reference in this quest is certainly appreciated, the actual execution ends up being a bit too tiring for most people's tastes. Running around different departments in a bank where people don't seem to like their work is pure torture.

Thankfully, the Gwent interlude in the middle breaks up this monotony, while the ending features a decent twist that somewhat explains why these events are happening in the first place. That being said, players still have to come back to Cianfanelli Bank to get the reward they're owed if they opt for the peaceful option.

6 Through Time And Space

Through Time And Space in The Witcher 3

Near the endgame, players would be all ready and geared up to take out Imlerith and the rest of the accursed Wild Hunt once and for all. However, before players can walk down this route, they have to aid Avallac'h in a quest that feels rather shoehorned in at times.

Sure, players get to explore many unique worlds...but the exposition dump coupled with some annoying environmental challenges makes this quest feel more like an obligation than anything else. Most people would just want to power through this segment as soon as possible until they reach the end.

5 Reason Of State

Reason Of State in The Witcher 3

There's no denying that the revelations in "Reason of State" are pretty interesting in their own right. However, it's the manner in which this quest ends that many players hate.

Not only is this quest missable if players make a decision that isn't all that obvious, but it also makes Djikstra look foolish, which is not something that most people associate with this character. Why would he assume that Geralt would be okay with his friends and acquaintances dying in such a horrible manner?

4 Dead Man's Party

Geralt & Shani From The Witcher 3 Hearts Of Stone

Hearts of Stone is a pretty great piece of DLC that features many unique and interesting characters of its own. These lead to several fun events like the wedding party in "Dead Man's Party," but some players have their gripes with this particular quest.

In a bid to show Vlodomir a good time, Geralt lets him inhabit his body as he goes to a wedding with Shani. He's pompous and arrogant, so it's rather odd that Shani enjoys spending time with him despite how annoying his personality really is.

3 The Sheer Number Of Horse Races

A horse race in The Witcher 3

Horse races are the bane of everyone's existence in The Witcher 3. Sure, Roach may be a convenient way to travel around in the massive game world, but that in no way justifies the sheer wealth of races present in the game.

Not only is it easy to veer off course until players are staring at the minimap, but it's very easy to just block oncoming racers if Roach or any other steed needs to restore stamina. It's a brain-dead activity, and Blood & Wine makes this worse by adding elements of mounted combat to a race too!

2 All The Fistfights

Geralt fights a bear in The Witcher 3

Fistfighting is a staple across the Witcher games...but it's not exactly the most entertaining activity players can participate in. These fights mainly boil down to countering an opponent's attack after parrying their blow, which gets old over time.

What makes this even worse is that these mind-numbing confrontations are present all over the game world and can even take place with multiple opponents, which is even more annoying! This is a nightmare for people who want to complete each and every side quest in the game.

1 Gwent Galore

Witcher-3-Gwent-Tropy-1

Gwent is a fun card game in The Witcher 3, but it seems that the developers were a bit too proud of it. After all, why else would there be so many instances where players can play Gwent with important individuals, get rare cards, and participate in tournaments?

This is especially irritating for players who don't have the patience to play this card game every ten minutes. While everyone's mileage may vary when it comes to this mini-game, even the most ardent followers of Gwent would agree that it appears a few too many times throughout The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
