The keep of Kaer Morhen serves as a training ground and home for the witchers of the School of the Wolf. In The Witcher 3, Kaer Morhen is the first place visited during Geralt's flashback sequence. Players will only be at Kaer Morhen for a limited amount of time at this point in the game, and it isn't until halfway through the main questline that they visit the keep once more.

Players will meet the other witchers of the Wolf School and hunt a few monsters with them. They will also spend a nice night catching up, which makes for one of the most wholesome moments of The Witcher 3. The keep and the area around it hold many secrets and that players will now be able to explore.

5 Dead Witcher Trainee At The Bastion

The Bastion is a ruined building found due East from the keep. It served as an alternate training location for young witcher trainees in a time long past. When Geralt visits The Bastion, he will be greeted by a few Wraiths which he will need to take care of.

Once they are dealt with, Geralt can use the Magic Lamp, given to him by Keira Metz for her quests, to view the events of the past. He will see an older witcher training a young boy after which the scene will change and the pair will come under attack in the vision after which the sequence ends.

Players can then use their Witcher Senses to find the body of the young boy with two pitchforks sticking out of it. Geralt will then take the body and bury it with two swords, one made of steel and the other made of silver, giving it a proper Witcher's burial. The boy may not have become a Witcher in his lifetime but Geralt makes sure that he achieves his goal at least in death.

4 The Witchers' Forge

When Geralt goes to meet Yennefer at Kaer Morhen, he will enter an area with stairs going upwards, on top of which he will meet the sorceress in question. Instead of climbing the stairs right away, if players explore the lower level of the stairwell, they will discover a few chests inside of which they will find a note. The document appears to be written by a mage who paints witchers in a very bad light. But Geralt will also find some hidden instructions at the end of the note which will start a quest.

The marker will send players to an abandoned and depleted iron mine, inside of which they will run into an elemental which they will have to kill. Players must then place the book on the pedestal which opens a hidden passage to a forge area. Upon entering and investigating this area, an Ifrit will appear and attack players which can be a challenging fight.

After dealing with the monster, players must use their witcher senses to reveal an illusory wall which they can dispel with the Eye of Nehaleni, acquired during one of Keira Metz's quests. It will reveal a small hallway with three chests at the end, one of which will contain a fully crafted Mascrafted Wolven Armor.

3 Lambert Can Die During The Battle Of Kaer Morhen

The Battle of Kaer Morhen is one of the most important events of The Witcher 3. Geralt and his friends choose to make a stand at Kaer Morhen to protect Ciri from the Wild Hunt. The battle also features one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the game when Geralt's mentor and father figure Vesemir is killed by Imlerith of the Wild Hunt.

However, depending on players' choices, Lambert can also die during the battle. The sorceress Keira Metz is key to Lambert's survival. If Geralt completed her quests and then sent her off to Kaer Morhen, she appears at the right time to save Lambert from getting overwhelmed by the warriors of the Wild Hunt. In the event she is not there, then the responsibility falls on Geralt to save his Witcher companion. If Geralt is unsuccessful, then Lambert ends up overwhelmed by the Wild Hunt and loses his life.

2 Geralt Cooks For Yennefer

Geralt feeds Yennefer in the Witcher 3

After Geralt has a nice night catching up and drinking with his witcher companions, he wakes up the next day to find Yennefer has prepared the ritual to lift Uma's curse. She asks Geralt to brew the Witchers' potions to begin the process of lifting Uma's curse. In the original script for the game, Geralt and Yennefer were supposed to have a scene together where the sorceress asked Geralt to make some food for her.

Unfortunately, the scene was cut from the final copy of The Witcher 3, but the sequence still exists within the game's files which at least PC players can access via the console.

Players can access the console by editing one of the game's configuration files using the notepad or by installing a mod that lets them access the console. Once done, players must bring up the console and enter the command: "addfact(q401_cooking_enabled)". The command must be typed as it is and before Uma is given the Witchers' potions.

1 Magical Greenhouse

Geralt finds the magical greenhouse witcher 3

Located a bit further from the keep towards the South, players can run into an unnaturally cold place with three large boulders surrounding the area. Upon closer inspection, the stones seem to resemble the ones seen at Places of Power. Moreover, players will find seeds for several herbs planted in the ground but they do not seem to have grown yet.

Using the Eye of Nehaleni in the area will reveal some notes belonging to a mage who was working with or for the witchers of Kaer Morhen in the past. The notes reveal the mage was attempting to grow exotic herbs with the use of magic but was unable to do so. Players can then activate the stones using their signs after which they will begin to glow. However, soon after a Chort will appear and attack the players.

Once the monster is taken care of, the climate in the area will begin to warm up, allowing the herbs a hospitable environment to grow in. If Geralt leaves and then returns, he will find an abundance of different herbs growing in the area which he can pick.

The Witcher 3 was released on May 18th, 2015, and is available on the PC, Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
