In The Witcher 3, the player has to make a lot of decisions. They will then influence the fate of the characters, and more than once will also decide whether they will live or die. Geralt's actions not only can lead to the death of strangers but also those closest to him, if he's not careful enough.

As such, every main storyline in the game has several possible endings. The base game has three main endings, and the DLCs don't stand far behind - Hearts of Stone has two endings, and Blood and Wine three. To get each ending, there are plenty of things the player must not forget to do - or not to do.

11 Ciri Becomes The Empress Of Nilfgaard

Ciri's Empress ending in The Witcher 3

The ending in which Ciri goes to become the future empress of Nilfgaard many players consider the 'neutral ending'. In order to achieve it, the player has to pick the right dialogue choices throughout the game. He has to play snowball with Ciri, help her thrash the lab, take her to see Skjall's grave, and let her talk to Philippa and Margarita alone.

But there's another thing to do. Before Geralt goes to the Bald Mountain with Ciri, he needs to suggest to Ciri that they should see the emperor. He should reject the financial reward Emhyr will offer him. And to make sure Ciri can take the throne, Radovid must die - Geralt, therefore, first has to help Triss get the mages out of Novigrad, and he then has to participate in Radovid's assassination in the third act of the main game. Once Radovid is dead, Geralt has to side with Vernon Roche and to kill Dijkstra, to make sure Nilfgaard wins the war.

10 Ciri Becomes A Witcher

The Witcher 3 Ciri

To make Ciri become a witcher is easier than her journey to the throne of Nilfgaard. Once again, Geralt should make all the right choices, and be supportive toward Ciri, encourage her independence. But before going to the Bald Mountain, he and Ciri should skip going to the emperor. That will ensure that Ciri will become a witcher instead. Alternatively, she can also go down this path if she visits the emperor but Radovid later wins the war - or Dijkstra does.

9 Ciri Dies

Letting Ciri Die

The worst ending is Ciri's death which will deeply hurt Geralt. Ciri will die if the player makes the wrong dialogue choices throughout the game. It happens if he drinks with Ciri at Kaer Morhen after Vesemir's death and tells her she doesn't need to be good at everything. Other negative points include: accepting payment from the emperor (if Geralt and Ciri visit him in Vizima), refusing to go to Skjall's grave, giving Ciri a necklace in the lab instead of thrashing it, and going with her to talk to Philippa and Margarita in Novigrad. All of this will undermine Ciri's confidence and will lead to her death when she goes to fight the White Frost.

8 Geralt Gets Together With Triss

The Witcher 3 Geralt Triss Maze

Geralt can sleep with multiple women throughout the game but he can only end up with two of them. One of them is Triss Merigold. To get his happily ever after with the red-headed sorceress, Geralt needs to help Triss save young Alfred Vegelbud from the witch hunters (and kiss Triss in the Vegelbud maze) during the quest A Matter of Life and Death. He then has to complete the quest Now or Never and help Triss get the mages out of Novigrad. When they're saying their goodbyes, Geralt needs to say: "Stay with me." and then "I love you." to make sure Triss doesn't leave the city. If the player does all this, Geralt will retire with Triss to Kovir where she'll work for the king and Geralt will take an occasional witcher contract to stay in shape.

7 Geralt Gets Together With Yennefer

The Witcher 3 Yennefer and Geralt

There's also the opportunity to end up together with Yennefer of Vengerberg instead, Geralt's old love. To do that, Geralt needs to do several things. First of all, he should choose the black and white outfit when he goes to the late king Bran's wake with Yennefer. Black and white are Yennefer's favorite colors and she barely wears any other. Then Geralt has to think about kissing Yennefer when Ermion's poison chamber tries to finish them off.

Finally, Geralt should complete the quest The Last Wish and tell Yennefer that nothing has changed and he still loves her too after they had defeated the djinn. In this case, they will end up together and live a peaceful life far from all the politics and danger.

6 Geralt Ends Up Alone

Yennefer Triss

What no-one should forget is that Geralt can't romance both Triss and Yennefer. If he tries that and tells both of the sorceresses that he loves them, they will find out, pretend to seduce him to have a threesome, they will tie Geralt up and abandon him - and Dandelion will have to come to his rescue! From there on, neither Triss nor Yennefer will want to have anything to do with Geralt on a romantic level.

The second option is to simply reject their advances which will lead to the same result - Geralt will end up alone. During Now or Never, Geralt should avoid telling Triss he loves her. And during the quest The Last Wish, he should tell Yennefer the magic is gone for him and he no longer loves her.

5 Olgierd Von Everec Lives

Olgierd von Everec

The best ending in the DLC Hearts of Stone will have Olgierd von Everec survive and decide to start a new life. To do that, Geralt has to speak to the old professor in Oxenfurt before meeting Olgierd. Geralt should then challenge Gaunter O'Dimm and ask him to play both for his and Olgierd's soul. Gaunter will accept the challenge and send Geralt to a fantasy world where Geralt has to find him. If he does that in time, Gaunter will leave this sphere of existence, Olgierd will survive and reward Geralt by giving him his sword called Iris.

Another option is to side with Gaunter O'Dimm instead. This option will become the only one available if Geralt skips on visiting the old professor Shani told him about. If Geralt sides with Gaunter O'Dimm, he will quickly kill Olgierd, and then offer to reward Geralt. He has some interesting rewards to offer, but most players still consider this ending the bad one since it means Geralt joins the side of evil.

3 Anna Henrietta And Syanna Live

Anna Henrietta Syanna Cropped

Finally, it's time to look at the second DLC Blood and Wine - that has 3 possible main endings. The best one is when both Anna Henrietta and her sister Syanna survive and they reconcile. To achieve that, Geralt needs to visit the Land of a Thousand Fables, and be sympathetic to Syanna, listen to her story. He should then visit her in Beauclair and persuade her that Anna Henrietta still cares about her (just don't mention anything about the Curse of the Black Sun or Syanna being jealous of Anna).

Also, before he goes to the Land of a Thousand Fables, Geralt should read all the entries in the diary available in the playroom otherwise the best ending won't be available. And he should buy or win Syanna's ribbon from the Little Flint Girl - it will later save Syanna's life when Dettlaff tries to kill her.

2 Syanna Dies, Anna Henrietta Lives

Syanna Dies

The neutral ending sees Syanna die. When Geralt is in the Land of a Thousand Fables, he shouldn't get Syanna's ribbon from the Little Flint Girl. Dettlaff will then kill Syanna. From now on, there are two subtle variations of the ending. Geralt can either fight Dettlaff (and kill him) or he can let the vampire go. This is also the only scenario in which Dettlaff survives. No matter which option Geralt chooses, Anna Henrietta will always have him thrown in prison and Dandelion will have to come to his rescue.

1 Both Anna Henrietta And Syanna Die

Anna Henrietta Syanna Death

The death of both Anna Henrietta and Syanna is the third outcome - and, in a way, also the easiest one to achieve. If Geralt chooses to go see the Unseen Elder instead of searching for Syanna, he will kill Dettlaff but Syanna will kill her sister and then also die. If Geralt goes to the Land of a Thousand Fables and gets Syanna's ribbon, but is cruel toward her, or if he chooses not to see Syanna or picks the wrong dialogue choices before the two sisters meet again, it will once again lead to their deaths.
