The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a popular game for a whole bunch of reasons, from the beautiful scenery to the innovative gameplay — but perhaps the best thing about it is its diverse character base. Geralt is the main character but even beyond him, each of the side characters is layered with realistic and endearing personality traits to make the player invested in everything about them.

Therefore, we can't help but think — if the characters of this world were to attend Hogwarts in the Harry Potter world, what would the Sorting Hat deem them as? Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin? We are, after all, always tempted to sort ourselves into the fictional houses of Hogwarts... Why not do the same with the characters of The Witcher?

10 Geralt: Gryffindor

It's tempting to put Geralt in Hufflepuff, despite the fact he's not your typical kind, patient person. Hufflepuff is about fierce loyalty and a moral code, which Geralt possesses in many ways — at least, loyalty to the Witcher code, if not always to the ladies in his life. Ahem.

But he would die for his friends, and he charges into trouble without even flinching, showing him not only to be brave but exceedingly reckless. The pushes him out of Hufflepuff and into Gryffindor, home of the people who find themselves in dangerous situations more often than is healthy.

9 Yennefer: Ravenclaw

The Witcher 3 Yennefer

Ravenclaws are clever, witty, and do not suffer fools gladly. Who fits this description more than the sorceress and main lady of Geralt's life, Yennefer?

Yennefer is probably the most intelligent and powerful character in the game, with a sense of humor that can be painfully cutting and a habit of talking down to people — mostly Geralt, but still, he often deserves it. Although one might argue Slytherin for her because of her ambition and mystery, it seems that she would ultimately be a Ravenclaw.

8 Ciri: Gryffindor

Ciri in The Witcher 3

Ciri has always had a fire that means she doesn't enjoy listening to people. She charges off on her own, ignoring her destiny often, and rarely seems afraid of anything. Even when she is afraid, she's able to swallow it down and keep going.

Despite her heritage making her fit for Empress, she wants to be a witcher because she wants to help people, making her a genuinely good person. Much like her faux-father Geralt, she could only be a Gryffindor.

7 Triss: Slytherin

The Witcher 3 Triss

Triss is a hard one from the games, but if you read the books and play the other games, you'll realize her background makes her quite the Slytherin. Not only is she ambitious when it comes to magic and the sorceresses, but she's ambitious when it comes to Geralt too — she was ready to settle down with him even when he may not have been aware of what he wanted.

Triss is a perfect example that not all Slytherins are a bad person though. The manipulative and ambitious side of her may override her good sense at times, but she doesn't ever wish harm on anyone.

Well. Anyone who doesn't deserve it.

6 Dandelion: Slytherin

Dandelion in The Witcher 3

Dandelion is another example of a good Slytherin. He's a friend to Geralt and truly tries to help out the main characters, but he also can be a manipulative liar. He's often caught telling stories of he and Geralt's adventures but inserting himself into the hero's role and speaking as if he did everything Geralt did. In this way, he's kind of a Gilderoy Lockhart type.

5 Olgierd: Slytherin

Olgierd is an example of a worse Slytherin. His ambition overpowered everything else, and it eventually ruined him and his wife. The main character of the Hearts of Stone expansion, he could never be anything else — except perhaps Ravenclaw, but it's blindingly obvious that for how intelligent he is, his ambition overshadows even that. He also seemed to have little issue with lying to Geralt.

4 Iris: Hufflepuff

Although we didn't see much of Iris von Everec, it can be assumed that his wife was a Hufflepuff. Her loyalty was to her husband Olgierd until her dying day, and even what came after. She's the tragic example of what can happen when a Hufflepuff's loyalty and patience goes so far that they forget to look after themselves too.

3 Dettlaff: Hufflepuff

Dettlaff is a brilliant example of a Hufflepuff because he's so not typical. Who would expect the violent vampire, main villain of the Blood and Wine expansion, to be a Hufflepuff of all things?

And yet, he is. When he falls in love with Syanna, he's blindingly loyal to her. He believes all of her lies, kills for her, would do anything for her until it's proven she lied to him. It's tempting and easy to categorize all villains as Slytherins, but Dettlaff is a fantastic example of why that would be a mistake.

2 Anna: Gryffindor

Anna Henrietta, duchess of Toussaint, doesn't strike the player as a Gryffindor when they first meet her. She seems like a spoiled, rich ruler, to be frank.

But when things start getting tough and need to be investigated, she's quick to shed her ball gown for a riding outfit and insists on accompanying Geralt into dangerous territory to investigate things for herself. She cares so much about her people that she's no longer content to sit back when they're in danger, her morals and courage taking over, proving that we shouldn't always judge a book by its cover.

1 Syanna: Slytherin

The Witcher 3 Syanna

Then there's her sister, Syanna, who is a Slytherin.

Syanna is a great liar. She tricks people — including a higher vampire! — into believing a false identity, gets people murdered in revenge, and seems to have turned very cold and be loyal to no one. Her revenge is perhaps understandable to want, but she goes very far to get it in ways that only a Slytherin could. Her sister may be a lion through and through, but Syanna is all serpent.
