Monsters won't slay themselves in The Witcher 3. The protagonist of the game, Geralt of Rivia, utilizes a diverse array of weaponry to overcome his foes. With his trusty Steel and Silver swords, along with some much-needed preparation, Geralt can overcome anything that's thrown at him. However, why not make The Witcher 3 even more interesting?

The modding community for the game is immense. Almost anything can be found to suit a player's interest, including a fun collection of weapon mods. Longtime veterans of Geralt's adventures should certainly consider this array of weapon mods to spice up their next playthrough.

6 Indestructible Items - No More Weapon Degradation

No Weapon Degradation

A witcher needs to maintain his weapon for the latter to remain effective. Geralt is no exception to this rule. Players must regularly maintain their weapons and armor themselves or pay a blacksmith to do the job. Eventually, weapons may break if left unattended for too long.

This mechanic is immersive, but can also get a little annoying after a while. A simple fix would be to download the Indestructible Items - No More Weapon Degradation mod. As its name suggests, items will no longer degrade over time. Now, players can spend more time exploring and slaying monsters without having to worry about the state of their swords.

5 Relic Weapons Redone

Relic Weapons Redone

The Witcher 3 is a big game with plenty of valuable treasures to be found. Oftentimes, players are rewarded for their diligent exploration by obtaining a new sword. Among these weapons, some of the most valuable are the Relic swords. These weapons possess additional properties that make them more effective in combat compared to generic gear.

Nevertheless, even Relic weapons can become obsolete after Geralt levels up a few times. The Relic Weapons Redone mod overhauls the Relic gear, keeping them relevant for a longer period. For example, players can dismantle their current Relic sword to obtain a new copy that matches their level. These swords also have additional functions and upgrades compared to the vanilla game.

4 Stronger Crossbow Bolts

Swords aren't the only tools in Geralt's arsenal of weaponry. He also has access to the Crossbow, which gives the witcher some much-needed ranged capability. However, fans will quickly notice that the Crossbow isn't the "be-all-end-all" in a tough fight. Melee weapons remain as Geralt's primary means of dealing damage.

Furthermore, as enemies become stronger as Geralt levels, the effectiveness of the Crossbow wanes a bit. The Stronger Crossbow Bolts mod attempts to keep the Crossbow as a viable weapon, even in the latter stages of the game. The damage of the bolts is increased, thereby ensuring the weapon remains dangerous in Geralt's hands.

3 Firearms

Of course, who needs a medieval weapon like the Crossbow when guns are available? When puny arrows don't seem like enough, trying one's hand at gunpowder weaponry can be a fun alternative. Obviously, introducing guns into the world of The Witcher 3isn't very immersive, but can be a fun alternative for players willing to experiment with new gameplay.

The aptly named Firearms mod adds ten flintlock pistols to the game, as well as seven different ammunition types. These weapons can even the odds in a fight in no time. The guns and bullets can be crafted from diagrams and recipes just like any other weapon. Just don't forget to stock up on plenty of gunpowder!

2 Auto Apply Oils

Geralt has quite a few tricks up his sleeve when dealing with the monsters he faces. Players can coat their swords in a variety of oils to increase their effectiveness against specific types of enemies. Although applying oils is optional, doing so can make tough fights satisfyingly manageable instead of frustrating.

Auto Apply Oils, though not a weapons mod in a strict sense, still has a significant impact on Geralt's weaponry. Rather than applying oils manually before a fight, this mod automatically applies the correct one by scanning the enemies near Geralt's location. It's a nice mod for players who get tired of navigating menu screens hour after hour.

1 Exotic Arsenal

Even though a vast array of weaponry already stands at the player's fingertips, more is always better. Fans have a few options on Nexus when it comes to mods that add additional weapons to the game. Experimenting with what each mod has to offer is recommended. A mod manager, like this one, is typically an invaluable tool to use when installing dozens of mods.

A good place to start as far as weapon add-ons are concerned is with the Exotic Arsenal mod. This mod adds 55 bladed weapons to the game, split almost evenly between Steel and Silver varieties. Diagrams are also available to improve these weapons further. Everything included in the mod can be found in shops, as random loot, or hidden in chests scattered throughout the game world.

The Witcher 3 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
