The expectations that were placed on Tom Holland for Spider-Man: No Way Home were astronomically high, and rightfully so. Given that it has become the fourth highest-grossing film at the U.S. box office in history, it looks like many people have given him the stamp of approval. But what does co-star Willem Dafoe have to say about him?

Dafoe, who made an epic return to the franchise as the Green Goblin, recently spoke about working with Holland on Spider-Man: No Way Home. He had nothing but nice things to say about the British actor, revealing that he greatly admired his discipline and commitment to the role.

During an interview with GQ, Dafoe noted that Holland was incredible to watch physically, referencing the young actor's stunt work during the film. Dafoe himself is, of course, a well-respected actor with several accolades under his belt, so his opinion holds considerable merit. It must therefore be pleasing for Holland to hear that one of the most legendary actors in the world approves of the work he's doing. Dafoe even added that he thinks Holland and the rest of the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast are real believers in what they are doing, which is all you could ever ask for in a cast.

Spider-Man: No Way Home not only saw Dafoe's super villain comeback, but also Jamie Foxx's (Electro) and Alfred Molina's Doc Ock. Seeing past actors from the Sony titles made Dafoe feel like the film was a true continuation of what they had done a long time ago, and he says he's always admired their work. As fans know, Spider-Man: No Way Home marked Dafoe's return to the role of Norman Osborn for the first time since his brief appearance in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3.

As of now, it's unclear what Dafoe's future with Marvel Studios will be, but audiences will still see him on the big screen in the near future. Aside from No Way Home, Dafoe has been making waves with his performance in Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley, which is generating a lot of Oscar buzz for him at the moment.

So far, Dafoe has been nominated for four Oscars, but he has yet to win. While it's unlikely that his Green Goblin portrayal will get the attention of the Academy, he can still take pride in the fact that the film has been smashing box office records ever since its release.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters.
