Wild Hearts is a game with a lot going on, and that's by design. There are a lot of Kemono (aka monsters) to fight, a mountain of different equipment to build, and a whole lot of materials to collect. For the most part, Forging Materials are sort of a 'natural result' of hunting Kemono. But, while roaming around the multiple expansive maps in the game, players have a lot of different materials they should absolutely hunt down to save time later down the road.

One of the strangest materials hunters will be collecting are the Peculiar Coccoons, which are literal cocoons of (assumedly) spider silk that are spread throwout the ruins of Fuyufusagi Fort. So, let's go over exactly what these cocoons look like, where they're found in Wild Hearts exactly, and how players can most conveniently gather them.

What Peculiar Cocoons Are & What They Look Like

First off, what do these things even look like? Players are going to need to know the actual appearance of these Peculiar Cocoons in order to easily spot them amongst the vast expanses of snow in this area. Thankfully, Peculiar Cocoons have a unique appearance that makes them easy to spot. There's no simple way to verbally describe it, but the closest approximation we have is that they look like a mass of bulbous growths with blue-tipped cotton swabs poking out on all sides. Thankfully, they share the same model with the Silken Thread gatherable found in Akikure Canyon, though that one has yellow-tipped cotton swabs instead.

Once players see one for the first time and memorize its unique appearance, they'll notice that these things are pretty sparsely spread out compared to some other gatherables. In fact, Peculiar Cocoons usually only seem to have between one or two of them in the few areas they're found.

Now, for those who are worried about finding tiny white cocoons on the ground on a map covered in white snow, don't worry too much because it's apparent the devs were aware of this issue too. Thankfully, these Cocoons are primarily found within the ruined buildings all over Fuyufusagi Fort. There's not any sort of confirmation in-game but it's likely implying that whatever spun these Coccoons have made the dilapidated fort their home.

As far as the absolute best spot to find Peculiar Cocoons, it's coincidentally the same spot players can farm Pointed Scales from the Shardshower Monitors. Near the top of the main fort tower, where players will eventually confront the terribly difficult Deathstalker in Chapter 2, there's an Ancient Well. And, just before this Ancient Well is the Doleful Upper Keep, an open area encompassing two 'floors' of the fort, with the Shardshower Monitors in the far west section of it. Directly diagonal from the Monitors should be some general wreckage spread about, but more than that there should also be two Peculiar Cocoons on either end of this covered area. And, if for some reason they aren't here or players want to find a few more before resetting the map, checking the first floor of this tower as well as the surrounding building interiors should at least yield a few more.

Best Methods Of Farming Peculiar Cocoons Quickly

And finally, how should players best gather as many of these Cocoons as possible? Well, as mentioned above, a few Cocoons have a spawn location right near an Ancient Well. With that in mind, players can just place a Camp Site at this Well, grab the Peculiar Cocoons, open the expanded map, pick a Kemono to hunt in the Fuyufusagi Fort area, and then pick this Camp Site as their spawn location to 'reload' the map and gatherable spawns.

Additionally, players can also build Tsukumo Ore Shrines at any Camp (one of the best Karakuri in the game, frankly) and they'll be able to get random gatherables native to this region collected automatically by Tsukumo as time passes. Using these two methods, especially in combination, should make it pretty easy for players to get enough of these Peculiar Cocoons to build whatever silk-like items may need them (of which there aren't many).

Wild Hearts is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
