Deadpool is a unique character from Marvel Comics. This mutant, also known as Wade Wilson, is deadly with a variety of weapons, and has a healing factor similar to Wolverine. However, the character's most interesting ability is how he can break the fourth wall to make jokes and address the audience directly. It is this power that has made Deadpool such a popular character in the superhero boom of the last fifteen years. He has featured heavily in comics, in his own movies, in animated shows, and in some video games. However, he only seems to appear as a side character in games that feature the wider Marvel Universe.

The MCU’s Deadpool 3 Would Be a Great Way to Introduce a New Deadpool Game

Deadpool is itching for a new game amid other Marvel outings, and a bizarre appearance would actually make sense now with multiverses in abundance.

Deadpool did have his own stand-alone video game in 2013 from Activision, but it was not as big as it should have been. Times have changed, though, and it looks like now would be the perfect time for a developer to announce that they are working on a new Deadpool game for several reasons.

Other Video Game Successes Could Pave The Way For Deadpool

Insomniac were very pleased with the success of their Spider-Man video game that was released in 2018, and fans were equally pleased with its faithful superhero story. Despite this game featuring some iconic locations from the comics, like The Avengers Tower and Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum, the first game in this series was an isolated experience that only featured Spider-Man and his cast of characters. The sequel to this game continued in this direction. However, Insomniac has since opened the doors to this being a shared video game universe, as they confirmed that their upcoming Wolverine video game is set in the same continuity as Spider-Man.

While it looks like Wolverine is going to be set in a very different place and time from Spider-Man, there is no saying that the developers couldn't use this next game to start setting up more things for the future. A Deadpool appearance in Wolverine would make perfect sense from a character perspective, and it could start laying the groundwork for him to receive his own game at some point.

The Last Deadpool Video Game Is Far Behind Us

Activision's Deadpool solo game may not seem all that old, but it was released for consoles in 2013. That was back when the PS3 and Xbox 360 were the current gaming consoles. Clearly, the developers did everything they should have to make a great game using this technology, but the world is now two console generations ahead of this era.

Therefore, there is now a lot more that a developer could do with a new Deadpool video game. Instead of a linear hack and slash game, Deadpool could now feature in a game with an open-world environment. If the developers wanted to keep his teleportation ability from the last game, it could make for some interesting traversal techniques. This is especially true given how impressively fast and fluid the web-swinging mechanics were in Spider-Man 2.

3 Marvel Video Games Are Not Worried About An R-Rating

It Seems Deadpool Can Shine How He Should In A Video Game

Although Deadpool is a powerful mutant hero who breaks the fourth wall, he does have other characteristics that define him. For instance, his comic book counterpart is a foul-mouthed melee fighter, who often cuts through his enemies in a swathe of blood and gore. His first solo video game was able to translate the R-rated nature of this character very well, but many fans have their reservations about the mutant being presented in this way now that the Marvel hero is owned by Disney.

Both Marvel's Blade and X-Men will be taking center stage in brand-new video games, and they seem to be coming out at the perfect times.

All those fears were put to rest, though, when Arkane Lyon announced that they were working on a solo Blade video game that would indeed be rated Mature. With this news, it seems that Marvel and Disney are not concerned about their characters being portrayed as less than family friendly in other media. Therefore, a new solo Deadpool game can still remain true to what Deadpool is known for.

2 Deadpool Is Now Part Of The MCU

The Mutant Has A Much Bigger Playground Now

Deadpool 3 MCU

Back when the first Deadpool video game was released, the character and all other mutants in the Marvel universe were owned by 20th Century Fox. This means that many fans were only aware of Deadpool in this context, and so his first solo adventure saw him interacting with other mutants as he tried to stop the X-Men villain, Mr Sinister. However, Disney bought Fox back in 2018, which means that Deadpool is now part of the MCU. In fact, Deadpool 3 is set to take place in this shared movie universe and is releasing in 2024.

Rumor has it Emma Corrin will portray Professor Charles Xavier's long-lost sister as the villain of Deadpool 3.

As a result, it seems that a video game developer would be more free to have Deadpool interact with all the characters owned by Marvel, and not just the mutants. While it is great to see the mutant bounce off of other mutants, like Wolverine and Cable, a Deadpool game that can include more aspects of the Marvel Universe is a much more interesting possibility.

The Mutant's Star Is Rising

Back in 2013, Deadpool had only ever appeared in popular media in the disastrous X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. Therefore, most people only knew of that unfaithful and forgettable portrayal of the character. As a result, his first solo game wasn't going to attract many players outside the core comic book fandom. However, a lot has changed for the character since then.

Ryan Reynolds was finally able to bring a more accurate version of the character to the big screen in the first Deadpool movie in 2016. He also did it again with a sequel in 2018. As such, modern audiences are now more familiar with Deadpool, and they seem to like him as his two solo movies made a lot of money at the box office. What's more, this portrayal is so popular that it is being folded into the massively successful MCU with Deadpool 3. This means that Deadpool is now more recognizable and beloved than he has ever been. Therefore, it only makes sense that a developer would want to capitalize on this success by releasing a new Deadpool video game.
