It may not be the "Direct" presentation some have been waiting for, but the newly announced Wholesome Direct is still certain to be a great event. Hosted by Wholesome Games, the Wholesome Direct is an online showcase of over 50 different indie games. It's a lineup of cute, cozy, and heartfelt games and the Wholesome Direct will air May 26 at 10:00 am PT on Youtube.
As a teaser, Wholesome Games has released a shortlist of some of the games everyone can look forward to during the show. The list includes Book of Travels, Chicory, Little Witch in the Woods, Ooblets, Rainy Season, SkateBIRD, and Spiritfarer. Chicory, SkateBird, and Spiritfarer were each previously showcased in The Game Awards 2019's The Game Festival with free demos.
Oddly, the Wholesome Direct isn't associated with Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest. That could be because Keighley didn't know about it yet, or Keighley could be focused on bigger events. Either way, hopefully many of the Wholesome Direct games shown end up with demos available during the June Steam Game Festival event.
Wholesome Games was founded in 2019 with the goal of bringing attention to a new generation of games "more concerned with how they make you feel." This year's Wholesome Direct will be the first presentation of its kind, but it's likely to become an annual event so long as Wholesome Games is around. Maybe Nintendo can pick up a few great titles for its next Nintendo Direct.
