Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, the follow-up to the famous Boruto and Naruto series, has released three chapters so far as of October 31, 2023. The way Chapter 1 of Boruto Two Blue Vortex ended left fans excited and with plenty of topics to buzz about, one of which is the similarity between the current direction of the Boruto series and a beloved Naruto arc.
The recently released Chapter 3 of the series confirms fans' speculations and gives them a clear hint about which beloved arc from the Naruto series is being paralleled in Boruto Two Blue Vortex. The circumstances in which Boruto emerged in the Konoha clearly show a resemblance to Naruto's arc but with a major plot twist. Kishimoto himself acknowledged that he intentionally employed that twist to create a striking contrast between Naruto and Boruto's public perception.

The Similarities Between The Two
In the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, Boruto arrives in Konohagakure while the village is under attack. He emerges out of nowhere and stomps on Code's face, mirroring Naruto's entrance in the Pain's Assault arc, similarly, when Naruto arrived in Konohagakure, the village was also under attack. In the Naruto series, during the Pain Assault arc, Pain, the leader of the infamous Akatsuki, attacks the village with the aim of capturing Naruto and controlling the Nine-Tails' power.
When all hope seems lost, Naruto arrives with a team of powerful toads from Mount Myōboku and bravely defends both the village and his inner-tailed beast from this menacing villain. Similarly, Boruto arrives in Konohagakure during an attack, accompanied by a hidden toad companion. Unlike Naruto, however, his arrival is not meant for defense. Instead, he swiftly launches an offensive attack against Code and interrogates him about the whereabouts of the Ten-Tails.
As the series' writer, Masashi Kishimoto intentionally aimed to distinguish Naruto's and Boruto's entrances. Naruto's return is hailed as a heroic one, while Boruto's arrival carries an uncanny and mysterious vibe. This planned contrast forms the atmosphere for the coming showdowns in the Two Blue Vortex manga. In the Boruto Two Blue Vortex manga, writer Masashi Kishimoto cleverly uses parallel storytelling to emphasize the contrasting journeys of Naruto and Boruto. Even though they face similar situations, their goals and methods differ significantly, and the way others see them is also quite opposite. Despite his inherently good nature, Boruto is seen as an antagonist by his friends and other villagers who believe he's responsible for the Seventh Hokage Naruto Uzumaki's death.
In addition to their similar entrances into Konoha, Naruto and Boruto share other similarities as well. In Chapter 3 of the Boruto Two Blue Vortex manga, Boruto comes back to the village after a time skip, and he's visibly stronger. He shows off new skills, like the Uzuhiko Rasengan. This upgraded version of the regular Rasengan uses planetary chakra and channels energy from the planet's rotation, making it much more powerful. Because this new Rasengan taps into nature's energy, as per the series' concept, it's conceivable that Boruto has achieved Sage Mode, similar to how Naruto did in the Pain Assault arc when he came back from Mount Myoboku to Konoha. Also, Boruto had a toad with him in his clothes upon his return, even though he possesses a snake summoning contract, hinting that he might have learned Sage Mode at Mount Myoboku as well.
Despite these similarities between Naruto and Boruto, their portrayals are not the same. However, the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga has yet to unfold many mysteries and It will be interesting to see how this sequel manga will perform in the future and what other arcs it can adapt from its predecessor, the Naruto series. Nevertheless, Kishimoto has done quite an impressive job in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, skillfully adapting the Pain Assault arc with a slight twist.
