While it’s not a mind-blowing experience, the first season of Gundam: The Witch From Mercury was still quite a decent anime to watch. From the main characters to the setting of the story, this series tries to do a lot of different things in order to make this old franchise relevant to the modern day. While this kind of experimentation and innovations are quite a commendable thing to do for such an iconic franchise, the end result is still rather hit-and-miss.

It’s quite interesting to see a major Gundam series that revolves around the daily school life of its characters. However, there’s a noticeable lack in the one thing that everybody looks for in a major Gundam series, which is political intrigue and military conflict. Thankfully, the second season is just right around the corner, and it promises to deliver what the fans have been wanting all along. So here are some of the things that you can expect from the second season of Gundam: The Witch From Mercury.

A House Divided

Gundam Witch From Mercury Suletta Miorine

A studio usually avoids spoiling the second season of their popular series. Fortunately for us, the official website of Gundam: The Witch From Mercury posted a brief summary of some of the things that we can look forward to in the second season. They immediately delete that post and replace it with a generic synopsis of the series. Thankfully, major anime news outlets have talked about this now-deleted summary before the studio changed it.

From what we can tell based on that brief summary, the second season will take place two weeks after the end of the first season. This means there is still a rift between Suletta and Miorine. After all, the princess witnessed the witch destroy the body of another human being while having a big smile on her face. Everybody would be scarred and traumatized after such a bizarre and shocking incident. Miorine is no different.

That’s why we won’t see the two of them together at the beginning of this new season. Suletta is back to her day-to-day school life, while Miorine is at the Benerit Group Headquarters, busy working and taking care of her bedridden father. And while both of them are still divided by that rift, a new threat emerges.

New Threats, Same School

Gundam Witch Mercury Enemies Dawn of Fold

The first season of Gundam: The Witch From Mercury focuses mainly on its characters’ school life. That is why most of the Gundam fights happen within the confines of the School’s dueling system. There are only a handful of battles that take place outside the school ground, with the most notable ones being the surprise attacks that happened in the last few episodes of the first season. The assassination attempt on Delling Rembran, by the Earthian mercenary called Dawn of Fold.

From what we’ve gathered thus far, the second season seems to still use the similar formula as the one described above, A combination of school duel and space battle. While the first season tilted heavily on the school duels, however, the second one intends to bring the fights outside more often. Maybe even on Earth or other planets.

The new season also promises new threats to the main characters. There are three main threats to Suletta and Miorine that have been introduced thus far. Fellow students of Asticassia School of Technology, power-hungry members of the Benerit Group, and finally, the Earthian’s Dawn of Fold. It’s unclear whether this new threat will come from another faction within these three forces, or it will be a new and yet-to-be-named enemy. It could also be the combination of the two.

New Characters, New Mobile Suits

Gundam Witch Mercury Characters Mobile Suits S2

The summary of the new season may not mention anything regarding new characters or new machines. However, when we look into the official website of Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, there are several new faces and new mobile suits that never appeared in the first season before.

Most of them seem to be the members of one of the aforementioned factions that never got the chance to show up before, such as a serious-looking man named Rajan Zahi who appears to Delling’s subordinate, or a Stoic man named Olcott who is a member of the Dawn of Fold. There are also some new mobile suits that have never appeared on the series before. Most of them seem to be the new machines from the giant companies within the Benerit Group, such as the fully-armed Zawort Heavy from Peil Technologies, or the all-purpose Begilpende from Grassley Defense System.

Those are pretty much all the things that you can expect from the upcoming new season of Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. This second season is scheduled to be released on April 9th, and you can see them every week on Crunchyroll.
