TVs have been going through a renaissance lately. More and more brands are offering fantastic TVs at various price points. While the extra choices are a boon for the TV industry, it makes choosing one much harder. It is nearly impossible to claim one brand as the best for TVs across the board, but choosing a couple of brands to look at helps filter down the results. There are a ton of TV brands to pick from, and while mostly all of them are reputable and reliable, through Game ZXC's testing, these five brands have proven to be the cream of the crop.

For people who have already decided on their brand or brands, check out Game ZXC's guides that go into further niches to help make the decision even easier. Whether it's to complete the perfect steaming setup, add to a bedroom, or as an excellent gaming companion, there is a TV out there for everyone.

Samsung

Samsung has been the leading TV brand for quite some time now, and it doesn't seem like they are slowing down. With a focus on accessibility and overall fantastic quality, Samsung TVs are a superb choice for pretty much everyone looking for a TV.

Since the release of quantum dot technology, Samsung has almost solely produced TVs with this panel in some way. Whether it's QD-OLED, QLED, or Neo QLED, Samsung makes them all, and they all look fantastic. Quantum dot TVs are TVs where the panel that produces the image, whether LED or OLED, has a quantum dot layer in front of the backlight to make local dimming zones more accurate.

Traditional OLED TVs still have their place, but for users who need a TV that is incredibly bright and works well in bright rooms, QLED is the way to go. Not only do QLED TVs produce brighter images than both LCD and OLED TVs, but they are also typically a bit more affordable and can be used in larger sets without being too expensive.

LG

LG is not quite as prolific as Samsung, but they are no slouch either. Over the last couple of years, they have firmly established themselves as the go-to choice for an OLED TV. Despite QDLED and QDOLEDs making up ground, it will be hard to overcome the hold that OLED TVs have on fans of stunning image quality for both SDR and HDR content.

OLED panels are renowned for their ability to display inky blacks and superb contrast across the board. This is accomplished by having per-pixel dimming zones, which, when displaying true black, just shut off instead of dimming. However, OLED panels must be in a reasonably light-controlled environment for the best results. LG OLEDs can get quite bright, but not bright enough to fight off glare like QLED panels do.

LG's OLED TVs are also excellent for gamers. With near instantaneous response times and a couple of models supporting high refresh rates of 120Hz, whether gamers are using consoles or PCs, these TVs are a joy to game on. Plus, LG has focused on including the latest HDMI and DisplayPort standards for the best quality.

Hisense

Hisense TV in a living room

Producing TVs under the brands of Sharp and Insignia since 2014 in North America, Hisense has had a somewhat rocky start, but they have found their stride recently, offering budget quantum 4K TVs. A couple of years ago, Hisense was a no-name brand, and now, with releases like the Hisense U8K, this brand has firmly cemented its spot on this list.

Unlike LG and Samsung, which use the same OS across all their TVs, Hisense TVs have various OS choices. Some of its models come with Android TV; others come with Google TV, Roku TV, or even Fire TV for Alexa users. However, for most of their flagship models, Hisense has started sticking with Google TV more.

The best TVs from Hisense use mini LED panels, a reasonably new panel technology that comes with some exciting performance results. Hisense TVs have contrast, brightness, and color performance that rival top-end Samsung and LG models. Hisense's flagship model, the U8K, has an impressive 2,5000 nits peak brightness and features that will keep any user happy, like support for variable refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and Wi-Fi 6E.

Sony

While LG and Samsung battle it out for the top spot, it is easy to forget about Sony sometimes, but they are still producing some of the best TVs currently available. Sony TVs are more expensive than LG and Samsung, but they also have best-in-class color accuracy and performance, especially for gamers.

At this point, Sony mainly focuses on producing OLED TVs, which use LG's panels as a base. These panels are already known for being some of the best OLED panels on the market, and with Sony's secret sauce added to them, they have been taken a step further.

Using Sony’s Cognitive Processor XR chip, the Bravia lineup produces excellent contrast, incredible sound quality, and low input lag. Many of these TVs also heavily focus on gamer features like variable refresh rates and seamless integration with the PS5. It seems like Sony is moving toward producing more QOLED TVs, with the success of the A95L blowing everyone away in 2023. However, given the current price of the A95L, it is hard to recommend it to the everyday user.

TCL

TCL in a living room-1

TCL, like Hisense, has seemingly come out of nowhere to produce incredible TVs. However, they have been at it for quite some time because they focus more on the budget side of things. TLC has barely got the spotlight it deserves, until now, that is. With the release of the TCL QM8 and other mini-LED TVs, TCL has quickly become one of the leading players in the TV space, especially for those who don't want to break the bank.

The flagship QM8 series from TCL delivers stunning image quality, an incredibly bright peak brightness, and features mostly found on much more premium TVs. This series can be bought from 65 inches all the way up to 95 inches. So, whether users want a TV that takes up their entire living room or a more modest size, TCL makes TVs that deliver flagship performance at a fraction of the cost.

While the QM8 earns a lot of praise, the mid-range and lower-end TVs from TCL are also excellent options for users with a tighter budget. TCL TVs look fantastic in any room as long as they use one of their superb mini-LED or QLED panels.

Vizio

Vizio TV mounted on the wall-1

Vizio doesn't seem to be competing with the big names such as LG, Sony or Samsung, but it's doing well. This is because it makes budget-friendly TVs that suit the needs of many shoppers not keen on splurging on a new display. While many of the top manufacturers are focused on 4K displays, Vizio still has a handful of well-priced 1080p TVs, like the 40-inch D-Series, which packs streaming capabilities along with advanced gaming features such as AMD FreeSync and VRR.

It's worth adding that Vizio also has some top-tier models that are surprisingly priced under $1,000. For instance, the 50-inch MQX-Series is a remarkable 4K TV with a 120Hz refresh rate. As a gaming TV with FreeSync Premium, a dedicated game menu, and VRR, it also supports high download and streaming speeds through Wi-Fi 6E. What's more, it sells for just under $500, making it one of the best mid-range gaming TVs worth getting in 2024.

As mentioned, Vizio TVs aren't perfect and can't exactly outmatch models produced by the likes of Samsung or LG. So far, Vizio has produced TVs with just LED and QLED displays, allowing it to set prices at an accessible point for users. If you want a TV with a decent suite of features for streaming, display, and gaming, then checking out a Vizio TV should be on your to-do list.
