While most of what Ubisoft showed off at its E3 show had to do with video games, the company is dealing with more than one media platform these days. Perhaps following in the footsteps of Gearbox and its Borderlands movie, Ubisoft is rolling out a Werewolves Within movie based on the popular video game and that film got a new trailer over the weekend.

The Werewolves Within game released back in 2016 as a VR title for the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR. The story was set in medieval times and featured a town that was under siege by one member of the townsfolk who was also a werewolf. The social deduction game had players decide which user was indeed the werewolf and it appears the movie is going to follow the same basic format.

The Werewolves Within film received the brand new trailer during the Ubisoft Forward event during E3, showing what appears to be a fast-paced action-horror title. It's likely the company decided to show the trailer during the event because those looking forward to the film might not realize it was based on a video game by the same company.

As in the game, Werewolves Within features a group of townspeople who suddenly realize they are being hunted by a lycanthrope. The new video begins with several characters not willing to believe an actual werewolf is after them, only to be convinced in the goriest way possible. It's only then that the townsfolk realize they need to try and figure out who among the group might be looking to kill each and every one of them.

Werewolves Within features several familiar faces in its cast including Milana Vayntrub, who has done quite a bit of voice acting over the course of her career. Vayntrub boasts several appearances on Robot Chicken while also having a rather long career as the AT&T cellular phone pitchwoman known as Lily in the company's commercials.

Vayntrub and her supporting cast in Werewolves Within are going to be in theaters later this month, unofficially kicking off the summer movie season that has a few blockbusters like Black Widow coming down the pike. The Ubisoft film is also demonstrating the still-evolving way in which movies are distributed, even as cities and states continue reopening after a little more than a year of dealing with a pandemic. While Werewolves Within will hit theaters in late June, it will also go to on-demand streaming just a week later.

Werewolves Within is available in theaters on June 25 and will be on-demand on July 2, 2021.
