The hit Netflix series Wednesday may focus on Jenna Ortega's witty and dark central character, but the reveal of The Hyde monster wraps up the core mystery of season 1. As soon as Wednesday is barely adjusted to life at Nevermore Academy, she is intrigued by a monster who is terrorizing people in the woods behind the school, and she knows that it's up to her to solve this case.

Although fans have strong opinions about Wednesday Addams, Ortega does something new, and the series is gripping and fun, striking a great balance between dark and light-hearted. This character may be different from the 1991 The Addams Family movie and the sequels Addams Family Values and Addams Family Reunion from 1993 and 1998, but Ortega is endearing in every scene. The Hyde monster adds a new element and sets the show apart. Who is The Hyde and why is his reveal so exciting?

Who Is The Hyde Monster In Wednesday? The hyde monster in Wednesday

In season 1, episode 7 of Wednesday, "If You Don't Woe Me By Now," fans learn that Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), is the Hyde monster. While Wednesday is one of the best horror TV characters, Tyler is great too, as he takes an interest in her and seems to understand her in a way that no one else does. This is a shocking and fun reveal that proves why the Netflix series became so popular so quickly.

Since Tyler's mother was a student at the memorable school Nevermore Academy as well and she was a Hyde, it seems like Tyler had no choice in the matter, as this is part of his dark and gruesome family history. This is an important detail that suggests that perhaps Tyler didn't want to hurt or kill anyone, but he couldn't help it as this has been predetermined.

Wednesday makes changes from The Addams Family movies, and that includes adding a vicious monster to the series. The monster serves two important purposes: gives Jenna Ortega's character a purpose and also adds a compelling layer to her growing feelings for Tyler. While Wednesday isn't sure that she will like Nevermore, she wants to learn more about her connection to her ancestor Goody Adams and save as many students as she can. And even though it's fair to say that this famous and iconic character never needs a love interest, it's still interesting watching the chemistry between these two characters since it adds something new and different.

How Does Wednesday Discover That Tyler Is The Hyde?Tyler looking serious in Wednesday

Wednesday realizes that Tyler is the Hyde because when they kiss, she sees him as the monster with Dr. Kinbott (Riki Lindhome), the therapist who she is continually frustrated by when she's forced to meet with her. Fred Armisen is great as Uncle Fester and he explains more about the Hyde to Wednesday, sharing that a human will become a monster if they are given drugs or hypnotized. The most important and terrifying thing about this? As soon as Tyler was transformed the first time, he could become the Hyde whenever he wanted to.

Since Wednesday is compelled to investigate the monster from the beginning of season 1, it's always clear that she will be successful and figure out this puzzle. However, it's still unexpected that Tyler is the Hyde, since he does seem like a good character who genuinely cares about Wednesday.

Since Wednesday is horrified to learn that Tyler is the one behind the murders, this exposes at at her core, she's a good and kind-hearted person, despite her dark nature and the powers that Wednesday develops.

Will The Hyde Be In Season 2?

Many questions should be answered in Wednesday season 2, but will Tyler and the Hyde come back? In 2022, co-showrunner Alfred Gough was interviewed by Variety and said that he will return. Gough said, "Yeah. Absolutely. He’s out there. That’s what we wanted to convey."

Tyler/The Hyde became an important character in season 1 and it seems that will continue. Co-showrunner Miles Millar added, "Often, you want to see which characters or cast pop and who you like to write for. So you want to keep it open and organic enough to change it and evolve, but we certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons."

Of course, it's easy to assume that Wednesday won't be too pleased to see Tyler again in season 2. Perhaps they will interact at Weathervane and Tyler will attempt to explain what happened. While it will be compelling to hear his side of the story, Wednesday won't take this lightly and won't forgive him easily. While Wednesday's popular dance scene adds some fun and levity to the season, Tyler's appearance as The Hyde adds significant intrigue, and it will be cool to see what happens with Tyler in season 2.
