Following its debut of some fresh gameplay footage at E3 2016, Compulsion Games' We Happy Few has been able to be enjoyed by way of an Early Access that let players begin to explore the world and and its mechanics. Now, however, it looks as if the studio's survival horror game is almost ready to launch to the masses in full form, as the developer has officially announced a partnership with Gearbox Publishing that will allow the title to release at retail for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 13, 2018.
As seen in the announce trailer below for We Happy Few, fans will be able to interact with the Joy-obsessed society of Wellington Wells through stealth, combat, and conformity by taking on the role of three playable characters with their own particular strengths. As it so happens, the survival horror game will contain a full-length story campaign, as well as more than 250 unique encounters.
Those who pre-order their digital or physical iteration of We Happy Few for $60 will receive the in-game Jolly Brolly parasol weapon, with Microsoft Store, Steam, GOG.com, and Humble Store customers gaining gain access to the alpha version of the game once a copy has been reserved, while Windows 10 Store users will also gain access to the alpha version when it is available for pre-order this fall. PlayStation 4 owners will receive an exclusive theme for the console if they pre-order the game.
It's certainly exciting that We Happy Few has an actual date as to when it will officially be completed next year, and Compulsion Games is also set to thank fans who have been playing it since its Early Access and Game Preview Program period. In order to do so, the developer will be giving those who had supported the title through these trial programs will receive the full game on its release date at no extra cost.
Furthermore, a We Happy Few limited edition Collector's Set has been announced as well that doesn't actually include the game – so that Early Access players can purchase it separately – but it can be purchased for a whopping $150, and contains a plethora of 60s-themed goodies such as a replica Bobby mask, a “You Look Smashing” Plexi Sign Lamp, the game's soundtrack on vinyl, a Joy alarm clock, a sticker set, a collector's box, and several posters sporting art inspired by the title.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see what the final version of We Happy Few is like and if the title will be able to sell well once it launches in full next year. With a movie adaptation already in the works, should Compulsion Games manage to have We Happy Few succeed financially, then there will definitely be a much larger audience for the prospective film in the future.
We Happy Few is slated to release in full on April 13, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
