Playing Fallout 3 normally and without cheating isn’t a bad idea at all. In fact, it’s downright brilliant fun, and makes for a great entrypoint for those who have never set foot in the series before. Then again, sometimes a player might just want to let go of chasing after a less challenging experience and find ways to turn the game into a power fantasy.

The Best Fallout 4 Mods, Ranked

Fans of Fallout 4 have been making mods for the title ever since it was released. Here's a look at some of the absolute best of the best, ranked.

Thankfully, there are indeed ways of becoming overpowered to scratch that itch for godlike power in the bleak, gloomy, and unforgiving Capital Wasteland without the need of using cheats or console commands to manipulate the odds, ranging from clever character builds to acquiring armor that was never supposed to be carried in the first place.

6 Perfect Skills At Level 30

With a certain perk and some collectibles it's possible to get 10 points in all stats

Fallout 3 - Broken Steel DLC - Almost Perfect Perk

The path to perfecting one’s S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats is a lot easier than it may seem at first. Providing one has the Broken Steel DLC (as part of the Game of the Year Edition), level 30 will offer the perk ‘Almost Perfect’, raising each stat to no less than 9 apiece. That’s a big benefit right there - just one point away from perfection in each!

To reach 10 points all around, the best option is to acquire the collectible Vault-Tec bobbleheads that offer +1 point to each of these stats. If any of these are acquired beforehand, it’ll be impossible to permanently raise them. If that happens, clothing, aid, and other such items can at least make it happen, even if it’s temporary. Nevertheless, it’s best to look online and make a note of the locations that have them. For instance, avoid nuking Megaton before snagging that Strength bobblehead in the sheriff's home!

5 Acquire Almost-Invincible Armor

The Winterized T-51b Armor is nigh indestructible

Fallout 3 - Operation Anchorage DLC - Winterized T-51b Armor

Right after the digital simulation of Operation Anchorage is wrapped up in the Outcast’s Outpost, a fight will break out among the tin men, and the goodies inside will be ready to plunder without any consequences. One of the rewards is a real beauty: the Winterized T-51b Armor.

10 Games With Unique Tutorial Sections

Most tutorial levels are dull and fail to stand out as unique, but there are some which are more unusual.

Due to a botch in the coding, the power armor used in the simulation is actually given as a reward. It has a ludicrous number of hit points - almost ten million, to be exact! This makes it almost indestructible, and, providing the player has received the necessary training to wear power armor in the first place, it will offer the ultimate protection against all threats without decreasing Agility in the process like regular Brotherhood of Steel armor does.

4 Get ‘Grim Reaper’s Sprint’

Kills in V.A.T.S. can keep going and going with this unbalanced perk

Fallout 3 - Grim Reaper's Sprint Perk

Fallout 3isn’t exactly balanced. Experienced players will likely titter at such an obvious statement, while newcomers may be a bit dumbfounded. Case and point, the ‘Grim Reaper’s Sprint’ perk is a brilliant choice that is just far too good to pass up.

With it, players can refill their AP (Action Points) completely after killing an enemy in V.A.T.S. So, provided a powerful weapon is equipped, chains of kills can be pulled off against bad guys galore in V.A.T.S. before they can even react. It’s perfect against packs of foes, as one kill will be enough to focus all of one’s attacks on the next soon-to-be victim. It’s no wonder it got nerfed in Fallout: New Vegas.

3 Be Sneaky!

Stealth-builds can end lives with ease

Fallout 3 - Operation Anchorage DLC - Chinese Stealth Armor And Sword

Stealth can be an exceptionally useful skill, even in combat. With the right tools and build, players can bypass a messy encounter completely by destroying enemies before they can retaliate. ‘Silent Runner’ is an excellent perk for this route, since it harbors no penalties for moving quickly while crouching, and the 100% duration when using Chems from the ‘Chemist’ perk inexplicably affects Stealth Boys, too.

These final boss fights weren't what players expected...

As for suitable equipment, Chinese Stealth Armor will be made available after the Operation Anchorage DLC, much like Jingwei's Shocksword. Otherwise, a Silenced 10mm Pistol (like the one Mr. Burke in Megaton carries) is effective against weaker foes, even more so when paired with perks that increase the chances and effectiveness of critical hits.

2 Use Alien Weapons

Xenotech weaponry is built with firepower in mind

Fallout 3 - Mothership Zeta DLC - Alien Blaster

The Mothership Zeta DLC features some stupidly effective energy weapons. In the base game, the Alien Blaster located by the UFO wreckage deals damage aplenty, but its ammo is limited. In the DLC, though, there will be significantly more opportunities to stock up on power cells, and then some.

Whether it’s the punchy Alien Disintegrator or the hefty Drone Cannon, these extraterrestrial creatures pack some serious firepower that trivializes the difficulty of the game, and there will be lots of ammo for them. It’ll be possible to collect over 1,000 power cells by the end of the DLC. Even better, killing ten targets at the shooting range with the alien’s own weapons will grant the ‘Xenotech Expert’ perk for an extra 20% damage with each of these already-devastating weapons. Facing off against enemies like Yao Guai and Deathclaws will seem like picking a fight with an irritating fly with these weapons in the Lone Wanderer's arsenal, filled to the brim with ammo and ready to unleash hell.

1 Research Into Ghouls For The Bugged 'Ghoul Ecology' Perk

This perk is glitched and offers a damage bonus against all targets

Fallout 3 - Point Lookout DLC - Ghoul Ecology

Okay, this perk isn’t anything too fancy on its own, but the fact that it’s bugged is actually a big benefit to the player. During the Point Lookout DLC, go to the coastal grotto and find Pilk’s bedroom (there’s a chessboard and mini nuke in there). Reading his journal will grant the ‘Ghoul Ecology’ perk, promising a 15% increase in damage to ghouls.

So, how is it glitched? Well, it turns out that the damage increase applies to literally everything and everyone due to a mistake in the game’s coding. An across-the-board damage bonus is always good when stacked with other perks. ‘Bloody Mess’ adds an extra 5% on top of it, for example. Think of it as a sweet side to this meaty dish of crafty tactics.
