While fans of the web animated series RWBY no doubt loved to see some of its characters appear in crossover fighting game BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, there has most likely been a demand for Arc System Works, which is responsible for such stylish titles like Dragon Ball FighterZ and the upcoming Guilty Gear Strive, to make a dedicated RWBY game.

Fortunately, that appears to now be the case. Announced during Rooster Teeth's virtual RTX at Home event, the two companies confirmed that they are collaborating once more on an all-new RWBY video game, with WayForward, the studio behind the Shantae series and River City Girls, developing and co-publishing alongside Arc System Works.

So far, we don't really have any details aside from that the game will release on multiple platforms, including PC, and is scheduled for a 2021 launch. According to the official announcement, players will be able to take control of the four members of Team RWBY - Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang - and "use their trademark weapons and abilities to deliver [...] stylish action." It will also feature an original story from the show's writers.

Given that description, we can probably rule out it being a fighting game. WayForward is probably best known for making 2D side-scrollers and beat 'em ups, so perhaps it's a four-player co-op title similar to the aforementioned River City Girls.

This isn't the first RWBY video game made, as the series has received a few mobile-only titles. There was also a console/PC title called RWBY: Grimm Eclipse from 2016, but it was developed in-house at Rooster Teeth.

This news also accompanies the first trailer for the upcoming Volume 8, which will debut on November 7th and see Team RWBY finally confront big bad Salem.
