As fans previously predicted, The Fox is making a return to the Watch Dogs franchise in Ubisoft's upcoming installment, Watch Dogs Legion, announced at today's Ubisoft Forward. But, there's a catch.

At Ubisoft's previous UbiFoward livestream conference, the publisher unveiled the upcoming Watch Dogs Legion. While it keeps with the game's original tone of hacking to take hold of the city, it will introduce a play-as-anyone mechanic. Players will have the option to recruit a variety of London residents to the force, and this feature seemingly has no bounds, including even a grandma. And when Ubisoft teased a playable Assassin's Creed protagonist in Legion, it opened up several possibilities and theories for the upcoming game.

At today's Ubisoft livestream conference, the developers confirmed a theory many fans had their eyes on: Aiden Pearce will be a playable character in Watch Dogs Legion. The vigilante is the protagonist of the first game of the series, the original Watch Dogs. He's a skilled hacker who can break into any device and excels at obtaining information, which could prove extremely useful against the corrupt London authorities depending on what angle the player takes.

However, he won't be available at launch, says Ubisoft developers. While Aiden Pearce will be a fully playable character in Watch Dogs Legion with a unique story arc, he will become available with the Legion Season Pass. According to Ubisoft's website, the Season Pass will grant players access to two new post-game story expansions as well as four unique heroes with special abilities. As it would seem, Aiden Pearce is one of the four characters coming with the standalone DLC, with a brand new plot arc to expand on him.

While fans may be dismayed that The Fox is only making a reprise through a purchasable Season Pass post-launch, this leaves a very big question for Ubisoft to answer: will Marcus Holloway be joining the resistance as well? The protagonist of Watch Dogs 2, Marcus Holloway proved his worth in the sequel by leaking government documents and excelling in surveillance.

Now that Ubisoft has confirmed the return of Aiden Pearce, it's more than likely fans can expect Marcus to become part of the resistance as well, perhaps also as one of the four characters coming with the DLC. The next question here is how Aiden and Marcus made it all the way from America to London, and why?

Watch Dogs Legion launches for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One October 29, 2020, will release day-one with Xbox Series X/S on November 10, 2020, and has a TBD release date for the PS5.
