For the most part, the world of Wartales is grounded in gritty reality. That is until players run into a pack of literal spirit animals in a foggy forest. Luckily, these creepy critters can be killed with ordinary steel and old-fashioned violence, and when the mist and ectoplasm settle, they leave behind curious loot that leaves many mercenaries wondering what exactly is in their hands.

Oddly enough, even spirits leave corpses behind in Wartales, and these are represented by the aptly-named Ghost Carcass that players can stow in their inventories. They might sound worthless at first, but they're actually used in two different recipes that can help sustain any budding band of mercenaries down the road.

What Are Ghost Carcasses For In Wartales?

Ghost carcasses from dead spirit animals in Wartales

Simply put, Ghost Carcasses are used for crafting. If players have the right skills or camp equipment unlocked, they can turn these monster drops into edible Jerky or valuable White Leather.

To make Jerky out of Ghost Carcasses, players must have a Drying Rack built in their camp. The recipe for this crafting station can be purchased from the Highlands Trackers Camp, which is located west of Stromkapp in Tiltren. Go past the lake and up the forest, and talk to the NPCs inside the camp. They will sell the Drying Rack schematic in exchange for Pristine Teeth.

To turn Ghost Carcasses into White Leather, players will need a Tanning Rack instead. The schematics for this can either be purchased from the Arthes Trackers Camp in the far southwest corner of the world map or unlocked by upgrading the Cannibalism skill. Again, place the rack anywhere on the camp, then upgrade it to level 2. Doing so will unlock the ability to convert Ghost Carcasses into White Leather.

Players who rely on crafting their own gear will want to keep a healthy stockpile of White Leather handy since it's used in many Tier 3 equipment recipes, including the ones for steel weapons. This means that Wartales players can make a killer profit by selling crafted items. With this in mind, using Ghost Carcasses to make Jerky isn't advised, especially since ordinary meat is cheaper and more common.

Lastly, just like other food items, Ghost Carcasses can be used to flee from animal encounters. This should only be used as a last-ditch option for when the party cannot afford to fight or has absolutely nothing else to distract attacking animals with.
