  • The ongoing strike in Hollywood may delay any concrete updates on the Warrior Nun trilogy. Fans are encouraged to sign up for the email list to stay informed about the show's progress. This move to save the series highlights flaws in the streaming model, where artistic integrity may take a backseat to business interests.

Warrior Nun will have the conclusion it deserves after being canceled by Netflix. However, it won't return how fans might have expected.

A spiritual successor to the meta cult series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Warrior Nun focused on another chosen one. Aided by a congregation of nuns, Ava (Alba Baptista) became an esteemed demon fighter after a mythical halo revived her from the dead. With a fully developed mythology, fans became enamored with the series. Netflix, however, was less impressed. Unfortunately for Warrior Nun fans, Netflix canceled the series after season 2.

But now executive producer Dean English has announced Warrior Nun will return from the dead, just like Ava. “First of all, I need to start by thanking all of you loyal fans. It's because of you and your incredible energy that we keep pushing forward to make these stories. You guys really make it all worthwhile. So thank you so much for your continued support,” English said in an official statement on warriornunsaved.com. “I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures.”

Brimming with excitement, English continued to thank fans for their unwavering support. They were the motivation for continuing the series in some form or fashion, even if it wasn’t with the original partner Netflix. The producer also shared hopes that with the production of three feature films, there would be a potential for additional stories, be it films or television shows.

The only caveat is the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood, which has delayed the releases of current projects, including Disney's Tron 3. Warrior Nun will have to wait until the resolution of the labor strike before anything concrete can be shared. That said, English encouraged fans to sign up for the email list, which would keep excited viewers up to date with any pertinent information.

Saving Warrior Nun is unprecedented and spotlights the suspect streaming model. Because Netflix depends on subscriptions for revenue, it is primarily a business and less about artistic integrity. Innovative and special shows like Warrior Nun will invariably be canceled as the platform continues to pump out lackluster spy films like Heart of Stone, no matter how mediocre. What started as a movie mail service is effectively killing all creativity, and only through a supportive fanbase can shows like Warrior Nun expect to survive.

Warrior Nun seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Netflix.
