Warhammer 40,000: Darktide players are not happy with all the customization options that the newly released game offers. Fatshark recently released Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to the public, and the game offers improved customization options than those in the predecessor, Warhammer: Vermintide 2. However, it seems that some of the skins are far from impressive, which has disappointed players.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a spiritual successor to Fatshark's Vermintide series. Based on the Games Workshop tabletop game, Darktide pits players in a fantastical world far in the future. Like in Vermintide 2, players fight waves of enemies in cooperative action with four-player teams. The first-person action game borrows some aspects from games like Left 4 Dead and Destiny 2.

Much of the game is about upgrading gear to defeat opponents faster and more efficiently. Darktide has a fairly robust customization system that extends the game's operatives and the gear and weaponry they equip. The cosmetics require either regular in-game currency or premium in-game currency called Aquilas, which can be acquired by completing in-game missions or by simply using a credit card. Some of the camos are arguably way better than others, though. A Darktide player has shared their frustration at a Crucis Mk II Thunder Hammer Camo, which barely changes the appearance but costs 300 Aquilas.

This specific Mechrite Scourge Camo changes the color of only a tiny portion of the massive Thunder Hammer - a weapon of choice of Zealots, one of the game's four operatives. A small part of the hammer is red instead of the standard army green. It would be likely a challenge to spot the difference without having the upgraded skin next to a standard Thunder Hammer. Some Reddit commenters don't see this as an anomaly and feel like it's a consequence of Fatshark's acquisition by Tencent last year. Tencent has been leaning on games that rely a lot on cosmetics and other post-release revenue.

While some of the cosmetics are underwhelming, the skin in question is one of the cheapest skins available. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has also much more impressive full-body cosmetic sets. Those, though, come with prices in the thousands of Aquilas. Also, operative and weapon cosmetics can be bought without a single Aquilas using the Armoury Exchange. However, they use the same currency as weapon upgrades, which improve the character and thus offer a better chance at acquiring Aquilas to buy premium cosmetics.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is now available for PC with an Xbox Series X version also in development.
