The big and burly Ogryn serves as the stereotypical tank in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. They charge into the fray with surprising speed and crunch puny heretics with sheer brute strength, making them the perfect choice for players who love taking the beefy frontline fighter role.

Warhammer 40,000:Â Darktide - Patch 13 Zealot Build
Rip and tear through the hordes of heretics with this Patch 13 Zealot build for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
With the class overhaul that came with Patch 13, the Ogryn saw some major buffs that have made them more than viable in the highest difficulty modes of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. The classic Skullbreaker archetype has been refined to perfection, offering a more solid foundation to the fun bruiser playstyle from the game's earlier version. Here's how to build it.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Ogryn Build
This build focuses on dealing melee damage by taking the relevant perks on the left-hand side of the Ogryn's skill tree. The Skullbreaker line of skills revolves around maximizing the Ogryn's melee effectiveness without sacrificing their personal survivability. It makes use of heavy attacks to thin hordes, control the battlefield, and inflict bleeding onto anything that survives the first hit. The skill build is as follows:
1-10 Points | |
Skill | Effect |
Furious | For every enemy hit with a heavy melee attack, gain more damage for the next melee attack |
The Best Defence | Replenish 25% Toughness after hitting multiple enemies with one heavy attack |
Toughness Boost | |
Big Friendly Rock | Hurl a rock or piece of junk to deal massive damage to whatever it hits |
Slam | Melee attacks receive an Impact bonus |
Toughness Boost | |
Indomitable | Bull Rush augment that grants +100% charge distance; gain faster attack speed and more movement speed after charging |
Stomping Boots | Replenish Toughness with each enemy by Indomitable |
Trample | Gain increased base damage per enemy hit by Indomitable |
Rending Boost | |
11-20 Points | |
Skill | Effect |
Crunch! | Bonus damage and Impact on fully charged heavy melee attacks |
Batter | Heavy attacks inflict +6 stacks of Bleed |
Heavy Melee Damage Boost
Bonebreaker's Aura | Increased heavy attack damage to all allies in Coherency |
Melee Damage Boost | |
Too Stubborn to Die | Increased Toughness Replenishment when below 25% health |
No Stopping Me! | Cannot be interrupted when charging melee attacks |
Delight in Destruction | Gain damage resistance per nearby bleeding enemy (up to 60% DR) |
Domniate | +30% Rending on Elite Kill for 10s |
Toughness Damage Reduction
21-30 Points | |
Skill | Effect |
Implacable | Gain damage reduction while charging heavy attacks |
Heavy Melee Damage Boost
Heavy Hitter | Gain +5% damage on heavy attack. Stacks up to five times. |
Just Getting Started | When Heavy Hitter is at max stacks, gain +10% attack speed |
Brutish Momentum | Light attacks refresh Heavy Hitter's duration |
Health Boost | |
Hard Knocks (middle tree) | Gain bonus heavy attack damage after staggering an enemy (up to 25 stacks). Staggering larger enemies grants more stacks. |
Toughness Boost (middle tree)
Attention Seeker (middle tree) | Pushing or blocking enemies taunts them |
Payback Time (middle tree) | Deal more damage for five seconds after getting hit by a melee attack |
This build thrives in the thick of melee combat thanks to Batter inflicting Bleeding and Delight in Destruction, reducing all damage taken by up to more than half. With this setup, players will be able to keep swinging away with heavy attacks while taking minimal damage. However, this doesn't mean that they shouldn't block or dodge attacks — chip damage will eventually pile up if players don't defend themselves.
The Achlys Mk I Power Maul is very effective in this build thanks to its sweeping attacks and general versatility against all targets. Powering it up with its alt-fire can help take down Maulers and Ragers more quickly. As for Crushers, players should ideally be using a Ripper Gun with the Can Opener Blessing, which allows its bayonet to Rend Carapace Armor.
Big Friendly Rock is the preferred Blitz ability due to the low range of Ripper Guns. Use it to get rid of Snipers, Gunners, and other long-ranged threats. Players can use Bombs Away if they prefer, but they'll be sacrificing range for stronger horde clear, which is something that the Power Maul is already more than capable of doing by itself.
As far as Curio stats are concerned, players can use whichever ones they prefer. Extra health, Combat Ability Regeneration, and Stamina Regeneration are recommended but not necessarily required.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
