An official candle has been released capturing the smell of Tertium, the setting of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Darktide is the latest game set in the dark sci-fi universe of Warhammer 40K and is a co-op horde shooter from Fatshark, the developer behind other Warhammer games taking place in the universe's fantasy setting Vermintide and Vermintide 2. Fatshark has received a lot of praise for its Vermintide games, and so fans were excited to see what the developer would come up with next.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide sees the player take control of a Reject, a criminal who has been pressed into service of the Astra Militarum in order to defend the planet of Tertium from an invasion by the Chaos god Nurgle. Essentially, Darktide is a horde shooter in the vein of Left 4 Dead, where players can choose from different classes and fight against typical zombie enemies as well as some more intimidating foes such as Chaos Ogryns and Beasts of Nurgle.

With the Chaos god of pestilence and plague taking over Tertium, a Darktide player might not want to know what the Hive City smells like. However, for those who do want that extra level of immersion an official candle has been released in collaboration with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Known as "The Smell of Tertium," the candle will burn for around 22 hours. In the product description, it doesn't actually mention what the "Smell of Tertium" is like, but for those who have played the game, one can't imagine it leaves a sweet scent in the air.

Alongside this arguably odd bit of merchandise, a few other items are available for purchase for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide fans, including some figures based on the game's Veteran class and a Traitor Guard. Darktide isn't just for the fans extreme enough to buy a scented candle, though, and there is plenty to enjoy for those who aren't as familiar with Fatshark's previous work and the Warhammer 40,000 setting. Some have already been enjoying Darktide for some time, thanks to Fatshark offering a beta to those who pre-ordered.

Now that it has been properly launched, Darktide has given fans a lot of new content to celebrate its release. The Throneside zone has been added which comes with a new mission, and two more missions were added to flesh out the game. After Darktide suffered a few delays earlier this year, fans are simply glad to finally get their hands on the game, and now the fans who want an extra bit of immersion can also now enjoy the smell of the horde shooter too.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
